So, you want to root your AT&T Galaxy Note SGH-i717? (This method also works on Rogers, Telus, and Bell.) This root method will give you root access to your Galaxy Note for Gingerbread.
Step 1. Hold down Volume Down and Power button together until your phone resets. Let go of the Power button and keep holding down Volume Down when your phone resets, you will feel a slight vibration.
Step 2. When you see the below warning screen, hit Volume Up button and you will get into Download mode.
Step 3. Connect a micro USB cable to your Galaxy Note and computer.
Step 4. Make sure you have Samsung Kies installed. If you do, you will see “SAMSUNG Mobile USB CDC Composite Device” under Device Manager. If you don’t see it, download Samsung Kies and simply run it to install (then unplug and plug the micro USB cable to your Galaxy Note.)
Step 5. Download GalaxyNoteRooti717.zip and unzip. You should find three files like below.
UPDATE: Download removed Please USE new root method THIS IS OLD!!!
Step 6. Run odin3v1.85.exe by double-clicking on it. You should see something like below photo and a yellow highlighted COM.
Step 7. Choose “PDA” button and choose pda.tar file.
Step 8. Your Galaxy Note should reboot.
Step 9. Download Superuser app from the Market and install.
Step 10. You can verify you have root on your Galaxy Note by running a root app or updating your SU files in Superuser app.
Congratulations! You have rooted your AT&T/Rogers/Telus/Bell Galaxy Note SGH-i717!
