How to Root AT&T Galaxy Note SGH-i717! [JellyBean][ICS][Gingerbread][Easiest Method]

Click on Play button above or Click Here to Download High-Quality HD video to your Smartphone or Computer.

For those of you who want to root your AT&T(or Bell, Telus, Rogers) Galaxy Note SGH-i717, here’s a “universal” method that will root any JellyBean, ICS and Gingerbread.

UPDATE: (8/12/2012) Users have confirmed this root method works fine on the new T-Mobile Galaxy Note SGH-T879!

This root method is completely safe, does not erase any of your personal settings/apps, and anyone can do it.

This method is using Windows only but I will have tutorial coming soon for Mac OSX and Linux (so please check back).

Step 1. You will need to first put your Galaxy Note into downloading mode, so go ahead and hold down Volume Down and Power button together for about 10 seconds.

Step 2. When your phone reset, keep holding down the Volume Down button but let go of the Power button.  (You will feel a little vibration when your phone resets and your screen will turn black also.)

Step 3. Once you see the warning screen like below, hit the Volume Up button to enter Downloading mode.

Step 4. Connect a micro-USB cable from your phone to your Windows computer.

Step 5. Make sure your phone shows up as “Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device” under Device Manager.  If not, simply install Samsung Kies and you will see it.

Step 6. Download and unzip into a folder. (Don’t have unzipping program? Download and install 7Zip first.)
You will find 4 files. Run odin3v1.85.exe file by double-clicking on it.

Step 7. Next, you should see the ODIN program come up with a yellow highlighted COM.  If you do, you are ready to go.

Step 8. Choose PDA and choose the file “odin_ni717_cwm_recovery_b4.tar”.

Step 9. Hit “Start” and this will flash ClockworkMod Recovery on your Galaxy Note.

Step 10. Reboot your phone and copy over the file to the internal storage or SD card of your Galaxy Note.

Step 11. You will now reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery.  Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power button together for about 10 seconds.

Step 12. When your phone resets (you will feel little vibration and the screen will turn off), keep holding down the Volume Down button but let go of the Power button.

Step 13. Once in ClockworkMod Recovery, choose “install zip from sdcard” using the Volume buttons and hit the Power button to select.

Step 14. Choose “choose zip from sdcard” or “choose zip from internal sdcard” depending on where you copied over the Superuser zip file earlier.

Step 15. Choose “”.

Step 16. Choose “Yes”.

Step 17. This will root your phone by installing SU binaries (which gives you root) and SuperUser app (which allows apps to make use of root).  If you get any errors at this point, don’t worry about it and repeat Steps 13 to Step 16 twice more and reboot.   You will still get root.

Step 18. Reboot and you should find that your Galaxy Note SGH-i717 has been rooted with SuperUser app.

Congratulations!  That was easy right?  Not everyone can jailbreak an iPhone but anyone can root a Galaxy Note.

Having problems?

With Android 4.0.4 update, your phone might overwrite the ClockworkMod Recovery you flashed in ODIN.
To get around the problem, simply flash ClockworkMod Recovery again in ODIN, then when you see “PASS!”, immediately hold down Volume Up and Volume Down buttons, you should be in ClockworkMod Recovery instead of the Belly-up Andy Android figure.

    Hi There,

After installing ICS and trying to use Tmobile SGH-T989_VKL1_radio_ATTNOTE.
I lost my IMEI, it is gone! Could I flash back to Gingerbread?
It was Rooted and installed ClockworkMod Recovery.
    Need help.

    • _____hOmz says:

Hey, i just successfully flashed my stocked aat rom into the ics rom leaked and i was about to install the tmobile modem in order to get 4g speed but came acrossed your post so i had a second thought of doing it (scary….lol). So, what do you mean by your IMEI is gone after installing the tmobile modem?

      • Tony says:

Yeah it was gone! I did restore using Roger ( Canadian Telephone Co.).
I’ve got everything back using Gingerbread not ICS.
I’m able to run T Mobile 4G without any problem.

  14. Spike says:

“Congratulations! That was easy right? Not everyone can jailbreak an iPhone but anyone can root a Galaxy Note.”

You must not have jailbroken an iPhone since 2007. They are always a simple one-click jailbreak, easier than this was bay far, unless you want a full custom firmware which is more than 95% of users want or need.

  15. Aamir says:

Does this increase the binary counter?

  16. richard says:

hih..ot question. how come when i used instagram it freezes and it reboots.i dont know why.thanks!

  17. kem says:

Has anyone figured out how to create a mobile hotspot without purchasing the tethering plan from at&t? I rooted my device and had the capibility before I installed the ics leak. Now it doesn’t work unless I purchase the plan.

  18. Bill says:

does this work for Android 2.3.6?

  19. BinYaqoob says:

Hi, Can this method be used for GT-N7000 ?

    • _____homz says:

No, it says at&t galaxy note only… The steps on how to root the international galaxy note is on the other topic on this site.

    • sharil says: u have any link for root for samsung galaxy LTE GT-N7005…pls i needed to root my phone

  20. Spencer says:

Does the S Pen still work with Root/ROMs??

  21. MrNote says:

Please, where is the MAC OSX tutorial coming?? I need help

  22. jeremy says:

once again his methods do no not work ….i flashed the leaked ICS earlier now im trying to root…phone will not boot in cw recovery mode after i use odin to install…i dunno where this guy gets his your tutorials from but if i were you guys i would just stick with the xda forums this guy is an idiot

    • Spencer says:

I tried a leaked ICS rom on my Bionic and couldn’t get it to work either. I found a ICS ROM that had been tweaked and such and got that to load, but the 3g, 4g, and wifi didn’t work 90% of the time. Its the roms, not the guy.

Side note, does the S Pen work with root/ROMs? I really want to buy one but haven’t found any info about if the S-Pen works once another ROM is running

      • _____homzki says:

One more thing, why would you install it on your droid bionic? This tutorial is for AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note exclusively… Do you know how to read right? F.Y.I: “You are here—–”

        • Spencer says:

Are you that stupid? Just because you can’t follow a tutorial doesn’t mean you have to go off on people. Go here, its the same guy with tutorials and roms for the Bionic. On THAT SITE, there was a link for a leaked ICS Bionic ROM. The ROM didn’t work well with any of my data connections (3g, 4g, wifi). Just because you’re an idiot doesn’t mean everyone is. I was trying to be helpful and say most of the ICS leaked roms are very buggy. Just go to another rom until ICS hits the Note.

      • christine says:

why are you talking crap on someone who is on so many different rooting websites and has helped so many people? roms are constantly changing and rooting is not always perfect. it almost never goes the way you want it to. but i give him props for always trying to help answer all different kinds of questions. lets see YOU on a website giving people better tutorials before you open your mouth and complain..i bet you wouldnt help anyone except to say “oh go on xda forums”…

    • _____h0mz says:

You must be doing the wrong way… I successfully installed the is Rom the 1st day the tutorial was posted here…

      • Spencer says:

Hey I want to buy an unlocked Galaxy Note. I’ve been on these sites and such to see if anyone knows if the “S-Pen” still works once you root/install roms before I drop $700 on one. I assume yours is rooted with a rom running… does the S-Pen (stylus) still work?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to respond

    • _____homzki says:

Who in the world would flashed any ROM before rooting the phone first…Now who’s talking IDIOT?

  23. _____homz says:

    PAST TENSE A ****!

  24. kelly says:

do i have to unroot saurmrom first to do this

    • _____homz says:

If you are using saurom rom already it means you are rooted. These tutorial is the other method for un-rooted at&t galaxy note.

  25. Mauricio says:

    AWESOME!!!!!! Bye, Bye AT&T crapware!

  26. MANGO says:

I’m totally new to the flashing and rooting world but I did the odin install of the ICS leak on my phone….it erased everything that I had on the device and now its very buggy. A lot of force closes and freezes. Can any one offer any suggestions on what I should do to improve the performance? Should I reinstall the ROM using this method? Also is there any way to get back my old media/settings/apps or is that gone for good? I wouldn’t even mind going back to the stock gingerbread at&t rom if it means I can get back the usability of my phone. I really miss the big swype keyboard too. 🙁 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  27. ralph says:

hey can anybody please help im totaly new to rooting followed this viedo and got all the way to step 7 i cant get odin to stay open i can see it for like a second see the yellow box in it highlited like on video but disapers in a second i no im a dummy when it comes to this what am i doin wrong can anybody please help thanks

  28. Ben says:

I’m using the Rogers (Canadian) version of Galaxy Note, the model number is slightly different SGH-i717R. I’ve done all the steps and seeing “”install complete, enjoy!””, HOWEVER, I still couldn’t uninstall the craps apps came with the Rogers ROM; not even the bookmarks… when I delete the Rogers crap bookmarks, it’sll say “This bookmark cannot be deleted”. Question: What does this ROOT do if I can’t even do delete the bookmarks…. any input is greatly appreciately. Thank you for reading!

    • Spencer says:

It depends on the ROM, some let you uninstall apps some don’t. Personally, I would google it to see if theres a trick to it

    • auslander says:

Have you tried using TiBu (Titanium Backup) to remove the bloatware?

I’m also running a Rogers Note with a Bell SIM and I am about to root and do my needed fixins’ so this should work.

      • David says:

I just wanted to confirm that Titanium Backup does indeed remove all of the bloatware and can allow you to uninstall all of the unwanted software or apps. You can manually remove most, but like AT&T navigation you have to use Titanium do remove it.

  29. Wayne doull says:

Hi i just came over to android and am using the sghi717 and want to root it so i can put ics on, so my question is do i need the zip file like this( for telus as thats who im with.
    Thanks vm

    • Spencer says:

Yes. You install the zip to your computer, drag and drop to your phone, then you can go to his tutorials if you need help installing the ROM

  30. awesome post but .
I got an Error while flashing with odin

When you wrote AT&T how can i check if your great tutorials also run for my Version out of Germany ?

    thanks 🙂

  31. ralph says:

does anybody no how to make odin not flash of screen

  32. Alex says:

    Two questions:
    1) How do I remove all the AT&T bloatware from my phone after installing ICS and rooting it? (Which I love!)
    2) Is free tethering enabled with the ICS ROM or do I need to enable it somehow? I’ve been afraid to try it since I was one of the ones that AT&T sent the threatening letter to about a year ago.

Overall, LOVE the ICS on my i717! VERY stable and absolutely no problems as of yet! Now if they couldjust find a way to allow it to stay connected to the internet and GPS 24/7 and still have decent battery life like my iPhone4 did… That’s my only complaint. lol

    Thanks again!

    • Teddy Byrd III says:

just go to google play store and search “android wifi tether”. It should be the second link and has a yellow wifi type symbol. I use it all the time and just tested after i did icecreamsandwich and rooted. Enjoy.

  33. Alex says:

Oh, and before someone calls me an idiot, my phone IS rooted and I DO have Titanium backup. When I go in to disable the stock tethering like it shows in the tutorial, tethering doesn’t show up. Instead, mine shows, “TetheringProvision 1.03.08.” Any ideas?

    • Spencer says:

To remove bloatware try Googling a deodex or a rom that includes deodex. You can also try going into “manage apps” and uninstalling it. As for tethering, I use the barnacle wifi tether app. Works flawlessly and I have no complaints about it

  34. Hary says:

Hello. Not new to the rooting scene (used many custom roms in the past, so rooting is fairly simple), but I have two concerns: Based on my experience with the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch, if the phone is rooted, you get a binary count and the yellow caution triangle on the boot screen. On my soon to arrive Galaxy Note 4G, I want to root this but without those two issues. What are your experiences with this root and do you have the same issues as I experienced on my Galaxy SII? Oh, do you have issues with both 3G and 4G LTE network speeds/connections? And the wifi, does it work as well (I heard some rooted phones have wifi issues if you try to enable that radio)? Thanks!!

  35. Nago Desi says:

Just ordered a Ceramic White Galaxy Note today from Coscto’s website $249.99 for my AT&T upgrade :), I saw your video, It’s fantastic.. Since I’m a n00b coming from the Iphone phase, I have a few questions:

How do you create a back-up of the Galaxy note?
Do I need to upgrade to ICS before creating a back-up?
Is there any difference between ICS & Gingerbread?
Will Rooting void any warranty issue’s with At&t or any other carrier?
Is it safer to keep the back-up on the phone or the microsdhc card?

Sorry, just taking some safety precautions 🙂

    • Spencer says:

You root it, then you can use an app called Titanium Backup Root to back it up.
You don’t need to upgrade to ICS before backing up.
There are many HUGE differences in ICS and Gingerbread, and there way too many to list so just youtube both of them or something to see a video on both if you’re that curious (at least youtube the ICS video, but do the Gingerbread too if thats your stock OS and you don’t know all about it).
Rooting DOES void the warranty, but you can unroot very easily so you’ll be fine.
Personally, I always backup to my SD card

  36. fer says:

In step 12, to boot into CWM, you should specify hold down both up & down volume buttoms after releasing power button as your current description will boot back into Downloading mode.

  37. dbstevey says:

at&t galaxy note flashed the ICS rom rooted according to video and everythings good to that point. i am on tmobile so i wanna flash a tmo radio. the ICS rom picks up the tmo sim card until i flash any of the tmo radios. after that the phone says theres no sim installed and in settings if i go to mobile networks i get an error to install a sim card to access mobile networks. i flashed the stock AT&T radio and it doesnt fix anything.
If i reflash the rom i can get the same results and iv duplicated it several times so its clear the tmo radios that worked in saurom or on the at&t stock rom do not work in ICS. so, is there a working radio for ICS that we can try? i really like the ICS rom it runs fast and doesnt seem to have the lag issues the stock rom has. i want to use this on tmo though so i need a working radio. any ideas or suggestions would be great. thank you.

    TMoUS Samsung Galaxy S2
AT&T Galaxy note (need a working Tmobile radio to get 4g) ICS rom
i was using stock rom with the Tmo_SGH-T989_VKL1_radio but the signal and data were not very good.
less than 1mb/s usually sometimes i would get better speeds. is there a better radio for this?

  38. Rob says:

FYI there is a typo in the text the video is correct:

Step 12. When your phone resets (you will feel little vibration and the screen will turn off), keep holding down the Volume Down ( Need to hold both Volume Up and Down otherwise it boots to default recovery) button but let go of the Power button.

  39. auslander says:

Straightforward tutorial! Thanks for the break down step-by-step!

I need to be able to unroot so that I can run my enterprise email application (which checks for “root” as a policy). Does anyone know how I can unroot after I carry this out, restore my data using TiBu, get rid of bloatware, etc.?

    Thanks all!

I think you are talking about GT-N7000, this is AT&T Galaxy Note SGH-i717 root, no problems like that whatsoever. There’s also new way to safely flash ICS ROMs on GT-N7000 using Abyss or FM kernel, completely safe to do but don’t give people wrong ideas, please post comments in the correct section!

      hi Sau,

I recently bought the AT&T Galaxy note, I got it unlocked and now using T mobile services. Since this phone isnt rooted I am not able to receive T mobile4G services. I want to root this phone and I came across this site. After going through the reviews, I am not sure if someone really rooted there phone successfully and happy after rooting it using the above mentioned methods.

My question is did they above mentioned instructions really worked for you? Are you receiving 4G services on your unlocked Galaxy note, is it fast enough as compare to existing Edge speed? Please let me know, I want to use the 4G services on my galaxy phone but not sure if the above mentioned method will work for me.

Many thanks for reading and replying

I rooted Gingerbread with this method and installed ICS for SGNote I717.

But I can’t get root on this… Does this rooting method simply not work with this version of ICS? – or am I doing something wrong. Odin finishes process with ‘Pass’, but upon reboot I see the 2 samsung logos – but then nothing…

    What’s the problem here?

  57. TCB says:

Just purchased a used AT&T i717 Galaxy Note running Gingerbread 2.3.6 build .UCLA1

I’m a tech savvy MAC guy with experience in embedded systems, but want to move cautiously and not brick my new phone. To that end, can you recommend any links, sites, etc. that would help bring me up to speed with tools to unlock and root my phone from a MAC?

My endgame is to have my AT&T Galaxy Note unlocked, rooted, and running 4G on T-Mobile with the $30/month pre-paid plan having unlimited Text, Web, and 100-minutes of talk per month. This plan is apparently offered only online via T-Mobile and through Walmart Stores (which require you buy a crappy phone) and Walmart online.

Any pointers you can offer for accomplishing the above from a MAC would be greatly appreciated.

    • Heath says:

You can find the tmobile activation kit on amazon for a couple bucks then activate $30 plan online with the activation kits activation number supplied. A sim card alone is not enough. I activated my used HTC Sensation doing this. I love this plan! Best cell plan EVER!

  58. trisha says:

Rooting is something that solves half of the problem. You will get access to a free android smartphone and this is something that should accomplish all your goals. This is something that will gain you a lot as far as the over all user experience is concerned.

Max – your videos and site seem to take MUCH for granted with respect to knowledge. For example – you tell us to simply download the files you’re using in the videos, yet there are no links to them anywhere ! A Google Search doesn’t locate them. It’s very frustrating and disheartening to look to your site for guidance and knowledge ( which you obviously have much of ), yet you seem to forget that many of us are newbies with Android and our new phones. The links and files you speak of so quickly and “in-passing”, simply aren’t found. ( or found easily / with much search ).

I appreciate your great site, but would you please make certain that you’re giving us all of the files you speak of – the ROMs, the video tutorials, and the utility download files. Otherwise, it’s pointless to have a site like this up to help us unlock the promised potential of our new devices if you take for granted that everyone has everything you already have. We do not.

    Thank you,

  65. John says:

Follow up to my previous post ; I finally did find the files you speak of in the videos. Pretty evasive little things within the site – that’s for sure. Anyway – thank you for posting them, Max – although without Windows, us Mac users are definitely left out in the dark. Any help for us Mac users with these files ( I know – get Boot Camp or something like that ). But seriously – any help for those of us JUST using Mac OS X ?

Wow – the Mac videos you spoke of have been long-in-coming for quite awhile now. Hmmm. No where on the Web does there seem to be AT&T Samsung Note rooting with Mac explained. ( at least that I can find )…

Any info and / or links to such info for Mac users sure would be appreciated !

In Odin, only three files download. Superuser does not show up. It shows up as an app on my phone. My phone reboots. I can not go to the next step of rebooting for the binary portion.Odin said it was successfully rooted but I cannot tether

  69. John says:

Hey Max – when trying to root as recommended by you with Odin via Windows 7 in Virtual Box on my Mac, after downloading Keis and trying to reinstall the drivers, it fails telling me that it needs the Base System Device to install drivers.

What does this mean ? Keis won’t see my GNote until I can resolve this.

    Any help ?

    Thanks much,

    On this step:

“Step 12. When your phone resets (you will feel little vibration and the screen will turn off), keep holding down the Volume Down button but let go of the Power button.”

it didn’t work for me until I saw the video which said to keep holding the volume up button as well. I’m new to Android so I dunno if this was extremely obvious or not LOL but anyway, thanks for the guide!

  71. John says:

Major fail : When following yours/Max’s tutorial on how to “simply” root my new GNote, what happens when trying to install the USB drivers from Samsung into Windows 7 :

“Samsung i717 USB Driver Install Failed in Windows 7 – No Base System Device Found.”

Until this is somehow resolved, I have no way of rooting my new Samsung Galaxy Note i717 (AT&T)

My Mac sees the new phone via Samsung Keis ( Mac ), but Windows 7 running in VirtualBox will not see it. Hence the inability to run Odin and get root with the new device…

HELP !! Now what ?!? Answers from knowledgeable persons would be SO appreciated !

    Thanks much,

    • Max says:

Try installing Kies in your Windows 7 VM then. that will also install the drivers automatically, here’s Kies:

      • John says:

Thanks very much for the file and attempt at helping me, Max !

I had already installed Kies previously, but uninstalled it, downloaded your file link, installed into my Windows 7 VM, but still got the error ” Software install was not successful ; Base System Device driver not found “.

Same thing I got before. My Mac Kies sees the GNote just fine, but Windows refuses to see it because of the Base System Device problem.

Ideas ? A Mac-only version solution ? Very frustrating, as although I’m following your exact directions, it’s definitely not working with the Windows 7 VM route.

I’ll hope to get further solutions from you…

        Thanks again,

        • Max says:

Yeah unfortunately that’s a problem beyond my scope of things, I know you can get it working with VirtualBox as someone told me they did the other day. You might be able to save time and headache by just borrowing someone’s Windows laptop, I am sure you know someone who has an extra?

          • John says:

Thanks, Max ; my friends are all Mac guys, so no access to a PC…
Would you mind putting the Mac method of rooting up on the site?
Please ???? It sure would solve lots of headaches and frustration out here!!!! 🙂

            • Tim says:

I have read about some really odd issues Mac’s have when trying to control hardware. Either way, try using Parallels and integrate Windows 7 with your Mac OS. Shot in the dark but it might work…

  72. mw says:

make sure you have updated to the latest VM software; also, what version of OSX are you on?

I used the VM procedure a month or so ago to root mine; running lion 10.7.2, and the later version of vm ware..

also, try a different cable to connect your phone, reboot your phone and your computer, and restart vm ware….does it show the phone in your virtual machine once you plug it in? If not, the drivers aren’t installed properly or your cable is bad..also make sure usb debugging is enabled on your phone

    • John says:

      Hi Max,

Yep – have the lates version of VB, and Mac 10.6.8

Tried rebooting everything. Different cables even.

The Windows 7 seems to run everything else just fine in VB ; web, downloads, everything but seeing the GNote. MacOS and Mac Kies sees it just fine. Problem is with Win7 seeing it with VB.

Would love for you allow me to bypass all this convolution and just give us a Mac-only version of a rooting solution. Is there a reason why you’re not wanting to show us a Mac-only based route for this?

      • Max says:

I’ve tried using Heimdall for Mac OSX and found that it’s not compatible so that is why but let me look into this there should be a way to do without VM.

  73. josh says:

i followed all the steps to a T, but when i try and gain root access for superuser (Su binary vnull, check for updates) it says gaining root accesss fail. Same happens with Titanium Backup. obviously my phone is not rooted, yet all steps were followed in order, multiple times. any ideas?

    • Max says:

try reflashing superuser zip file again, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries.

      • josh says:

Flashed it multiple times. Says it was successful every time, yet no root. I know this is the best method out there but I might have to try a different one

        • John says:

Sigh… I wish I could find a real way to root my GNote i717 with my Mac. No methods I could find on the web that work.

I’m stuck using my GNote “as is” from AT&T/Samsung. Can’t understand why there isn’t an easier way to do this.

It was easy as pie to jailbreak my former iPhone 4. How ironic that part of the reason I left iPhone for GNote was to have more customizing freedom with my new GNote. Now I can’t even “jailbreak” it, much less do anything else other than the stock apps.

  74. mw says:

all you have to do is load VM Ware onto your mac, and install any version of windows on it..then, use Odin to root, just like win doze users do..
I was the same way as you are when I first wanted to root, but, once I used VM ware, and installed Odin on it, it took about 5 minutes to root..

    • John says:

Wish this were true ; tried doing this several times as you describe, but Win7 in the VM won’t see the phone ( the Mac sees it via Keis Mac) , but Windows won’t. Tried installing Kies for Windows 7 and the Samsung USB drivers but gives an error : “Base System Device Not Found”.

  75. mw says:

Make sure you have UPDATED VMWare, and the DRIVERS that it uses first…then, reboot the virtual machine, and make sure you have installed the latest version of Kies/samsung drivers on your Virtual Machine..Reboot the VM again, and then install Odin 1.85; reboot your VM again, then plug your phone in, and start Odin, and see if it sees it then…also, try a different USB cable if you have one…
I did this on osx 10.7.2 ..good luck

  76. mw says:

not sure what “virtual box” is..I know a few people. including myself, who have been successful using VM Ware

    • John says:

Thank you for the help ; I’ll download VMWare for Mac and reinstall Windows 7 and follow your directions… I’ll hope for the best ! 🙂

    • John says:

MW – Great news – it worked ! The fact that you clarified to use VMWare instead of VirtualBox made all the difference. VirtualBox does not work.

Thanks again for the great help !

i have done it for like 6 times… and it gives me 4 op[tions

          clear wipe data
          update something something

          • Max says:

Okay, right after you see “PASS!” after flashing in ODIN, hold down Volume Up and Volume Down, you will enter into recovery then.

What is happening is you probably have one of the newer software versions and it will overwrite the custom recovery upon reboot.

I had a question that I needed answered before I go off and root my NOTE again. I had followed the steps to root my phone when I first got it. Today (7-12-12) I got at message from AT&T about the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0, I now have that on my phone and it is no longer rooted. My question is, does the OS on the phone change the steps above on how I should root my phone again?

    thanks max

  107. Joey says:

@oliver, I did the same thing, stuck at boot screen and fixed it by flashing the official ICS update via Odin. :You can find the download files online. It looks like this method does not work for the official ICS update and we will have to wait until a new root method is discovered. I’m sure when it is discovered it won’t be so hard to find as it is now.

    • Rodney says:

      I used this method with the official ICS release and it worked. The first thing you need to do is follow these instructions to get back to the official unrooted ICS;

Please note that after you install the official unrooted ICS, on your phone, go to Developer Options/USB debugging and make sure it is activated. Then proceed with the instructions on this page to root. It worked for me.

    • Oliver says:

I did the same thing right away. The issue was my kies refused to upgrade my phone with an error like “unable to initialize” so I couldn’t switch back to official ICS. I ended up installing Objection ICS. I’m pretty happy about it.

I guess my mistake was using the wrong PDA file with odin to root the Note with ICS. It kept being stuck for a couple of recovery attempts and wipe offs but some how after rooting the stuck att gingerbread it somehow worked fine.

I totally recommend Objection BTW. Thank you for your answer!

  108. fer says:

I just re-rooted my Rogers i717 after the ICS update (build IMM76D.UXLF4) and got root back with this method again. About the only thing different that I did since following this for Gingerbread was using a slightly different CWM from an XDA forum post (cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar) which may have affected things compared to others’ failures. Flashed the same Superuser binary in CWM that I’d left on the internal SD Card from rooting in GB and appear to have no issues now in ICS.

  109. Patrick says:

Not sure I am following everyone here exactly, but is there a way to root the Note now that ICS has been officially released through At&t? Can’t stand that all of the Samsung junk is back on my phone now.

Volume up/Volume down + Power then Volume down isn’t putting my Galaxy note into CWM Recovery to install Zip file after recent Galaxy Note ICS upgrade. It worked fine on Gingerbread; any suggestions?

    • Jennifer says:

Hi John, I’m guessing you followed the written steps instead of the video? Step 12 says: “keep holding down the Volume Down button but let go of the Power button.” Instead it should say: “keep holding down the Volume Up and Volume Down button but let go of the Power button.”

      Hope this helps!

  113. Alex says:

    Hi All,
I have the SGH-i717 (AT&T) with Gingerbread rooted (as per process above)

Now with the AT&T ICS release, what should I do to keep it rooted with ICS?

1 – Direct install the ICS via Kies – Do nothing else and the phone will continue to be rooted?
2 – Direct install the ICS via Kies – Root the phone again by following the process above?

    Thank you!

  114. PSG says:

Not sure what I’ve done wrong. I’ve got a Bell i717 with the new 4.0.4 upgrade released last week. Odin reported success at flashing in CWM (both b4 and the touch version mentioned above). The phone reboots, but when I use the volume-up and volume-down combo during reboot, I’m not getting CWM.

I’m getting the stock recovery system. Similar options but terminology is different and there’s no reference to CWM. I’m not in download mode (at that point), I’ve booted the recovery mode only it’s not CWM.

Stock recovery mode won’t install the SU package as it evidently doesn’t like the signature.

    Any ideas?

    • Max says:

After you flash using ODIN, when you see “Pass!” immediately hold down Volume Up button for 5 seconds, you should see ClockworkMod Recovery now. This is because the new 4.0.4 update overwrites custom recovery upon reboot, installing a custom ROM will fix this and give you permanent recovery.

      • Mike says:

You actually need to hold down Volume UP and DOWN for 5 seconds to see the ClockworkMod Recovery now. I tried Volume UP as you suggested around 5 times with no success. Finally tried Volumne UP and DOWN and it worked. Thanks!

So, I got through step 12. But I’m not able to get into CWM after rebooting by holding down the volume buttons + the power button and letting go of the power button upon reboot. It just brings me to the “Downloading… Do not turn off target!!” screeen. Pressing up or down on the volume buttons doesn’t do anything. Am I missing a step? How do I get to CWN so that I can browse to the zip file?

    I appreciate your time

I apologize. I just read the thread above mine. Don’t mind me 🙂 Sometimes I wish newer threads were posted first. Holding down the volume up and down after reboot worked for me also.

  117. Craig says:

I attempted to root my phone. My phone was previously rooted but decided to go back to stock to try out the official ICS update. After not being overly impressed by it, I decided to root again and go back to custom roms. Clockworkmod Recovery is not installing. In odin it says it passes but I still only have stock recovery. In download mode it says I’m on custom binary. It said stock binary before I tried. I tried 3 times but no luck. I have Kies installed so I have the right drivers. I had no problem the first time around, but this time it’s not going as smooth. Any thoughts?

    • Max says:

That’s because the new software overwrites ClockworkMod Recovery upon reboot, it’s a stupid security feature implemented in Android 4.0.4, you can get around this by flashing CWM again with ODIN, then when you see “PASS!” IMMEDIATELY hold down Volume Up and Volume Down buttons, and voila!

  118. Craig says:

I was able to load CWM with the method you mentioned and it worked. But when I tried to reboot into CWM it brought me back to stock recovery. Do i have to flash CWM and hold volume up and down every time I want to boot into CWM? Would I be able to flash a stock GB rom and then flash CWM again to avoid all that hassle?

  119. christine says:

heyy max! i need your help! i rooted my galaxy note with the tmobile modem flashed as instructed in your tutorials. everything worked perfectly for a month or so but now im having this issue where sometimes my phone would freeze with the screen image stuck on the screen. then after about 10 seconds the screen would shut off leaaving the soft buttons lit and then the screen would flash all white once very quick and my screen would come back on with no signal and it would have to regain signal. do you know how i can fix this?

  120. Gostal says:

I have an ATT Galaxy note which I rooted using the above method wihtout any difficulty and seems to be working fine. However the purpose of unlocking the phone, was to be able to use it in Europe (Spain) with a local SIM card.

I am now in Spain, and inserted a local SIM card from telefonica/movistar. When I power the phone on, I am asked to “enter network lock control key” which I do not know and thought jailbreaking the phone would bypass this.

    Any comments or suggestions?

  121. Gostal says:

    Hi Max,

Thanks for your prompt reply. When I power the phone on with the SIM card from Spain, it intitially asks me to enter the PIN code. I then enter the PIN code for that SIM card and it gets accepted…..but then it asks me for “enter newtwork lock control key”

So when you refer to “unlocking SIM, use any SIM unlocking website” , is this different then entering the PIN number? It sounds like it is different.

Excuse my ignorance on the matter and really appreaciate your help…

  125. James says:

Can I get confirmation that this method does or does not increase the binary counter ? Because I did not see the warning triangle in the video at any time, that would lead me to believe that this method does not increase the counter. I’ve seen other tutorials showing a slight different method but with no counter increase, and I am researching which to pick:

  126. Waylon says:

I installed the “odin_n1717_cwm_recovery_b4.tar” file in the download and got a pass in the odin application.

You are in stock recovery, try reflashing the ODIN then hold down Volume Up and Volume Down buttons together as soon as you see “PASS!” you should be in ClockworkMod Recovery instead.

      • jason says:

Brilliant! So in your video you reboot the phone after the Odin flash, and then restart the phone with Vol Up+Down held down. With my phone I7I7d Telus, that does something that prevents me from getting to CWM. Once I Odin flashed and then held Volume Up+Down as it was in RESET mode in Odin, it booted into CWM. Thanks Max!

I haven’t tried this (nor recommend it yet) but in theory it should be possible to just flash the whole stock ROM off Tmo GNote to ATT GNote as they share identical hardware.

I have a Telus I717 and I can’t access the clockworks recovery menu it just gives me the stock recovery menu.

    • Max says:

With Android 4.0.4 update, your phone might overwrite the ClockworkMod Recovery you flashed in ODIN.
To get around the problem, simply flash ClockworkMod Recovery again in ODIN, then when you see “PASS!”, immediately hold down Volume Up and Volume Down buttons, you should be in ClockworkMod Recovery instead of the Belly-up Andy Android figure.

Hey Max, First, awesome tutorial man. Was able to root my brother’s gingerbread w/ no problems. I just upgraded my unrooted galaxy note to ICS. Did the same exact things but something appears to be different. Specifically, I’m having trouble going from step 14 to step 15. In the CMW recovery mode, I selected “choose zip from internal sdcard” and I get “E: Can’t mount /emmc/” I tried “choose zip from sdcard” (even though I don’t have an sdcard) but still no luck. Any ideas on what might be going on, or what I might be doing wrong?! Thanks.

  147. Jason says:

I’m trying to root my T-Mobile Note. I’m following everything step by step. There is one problem. When I try to get the phone in download mode by holding down the volume button and the power button the phone, shut off options come up then the phones goes black with the flash on the back of the device going off. When I release the power button after the first vibration the phone boots up as normal. When I press and hold the Power, Volume UP and DOWN then release after the first vibration, the phone will go into manual mode but not a down load mode. Please Help.

    • xParRaidr says:

You have to power your phone OFF first, and then hit Vol-down + Power

      • Jason says:

Easiest way to get the Tmobile Galaxy Note into download mode is:
        1. Plug in Micro USB data cable into computer
        3. Power off device
        4. Hold down the volume up and down buttons
        5. (while Volume UP and Down buttons are pressed and power still off) insert micro USB data cable into charging port.
-This will put your T-mobile Galaxy Note into download mode. Very Simple.

        • John Marks says:

  148. Human says:

Hi. I am using Galaxy note (Telus) and I think I got those procedures up to…where it says
to enter the clockwork recovery mode. My phone is getting into the “usual” (I actually don’t know how to
say it) recovery mode, where the android robot comes up. I’ve been going through your comments, so I know
it happens because of 4.0.4 update. So, I tried to flash ODIN again, but here is another thing that I am stuck with. When ODIN says “PASS!”, I tried to reset my phone as quickly as possible, but since I have to reboot the phone again, I keep getting into the usual recovery mode, instead of CWR.

    Any helps with this problem?
I tried to reset the phone without auto-reboot, but since I am in DOWNLOAD MODE,
the phone keeps saying that my phone has encountered a problem..

Any helps would be great, thanks!

Do the auto reboot but take battery out when odin is done.

So do the reboot and when the lock screen appears,
take the battery out? How do you get into CWR then?

  154. SPU says:

I have the SGH-i717 on Telus. I followed the steps in this tutorial to attempt to root my phone. I verified the drivers, booted in download mode, connected, ran Odin, and flashed the CWM recovery. Odin shows all OK, and gives me a big green PASS. Even the flash count has increased. However, when I then try to boot the phone in recovery mode, it still goes to the stock Android recovery, instead of ClockworkMod. I’ve tried this on both a WinXP and Win7 machine. Anyone else see this before? Any ideas?

    • Max says:

just reflash with ODIN, check off auto-reboot, then take battery out when ODIN is done, then reboot straight into CWM.

      • SPU says:

Removing the battery was no good. Any attempt to restart the phone other than Odin doing it would result in a scary “Problem occurred upgrading firmware” error message. The phone would refuse to boot until I ran Odin again and did another flash with reboot.
However, if I held the volume buttons as soon as Odin reboots the phone, it would start up CWM. Of course, as soon as I figured that out, I noticed that that very process was written right at the end of the tutorial. I read the whole thing about 4 times and somehow missed that.

  155. Nick says:

First time here, was Nokia fan before getting my Note. Great site, great info. Helped me start off with android.

Phone is i717r (canadian Rogers), running GB, stock, but my provider is Wind (aka T-mobile)
    1. Unlocked it
    2. Rooted using this guide, installed CWM, superuser etc… and than did CWM backup
    3. Tried several T-mo modems and finally got one that is working.
    4. Then, itching started and I wanted ICS so I flashed this Rogers ICS dump
and spent one day trying all Tmo modems out there but “no SIM card” was the only result.
Note: In Phone->About I saw that there was suddenly no IMEI, no baseband, nothing…

    5. Flashed my stock image back, from step 2 backup

Now, I am back on rooted GB running so-so on Wind.

How to get ICS and decent Wind reception? Anyone has done that? Or wait for JB until it becomes stable?

  156. Joe Prem says:

I have a AT&T (i1717) version which I had bought as a ginger bread version..rooted it.. then applied the At&T ICS update (lost root).

I was successfully able to flash CWM, but when I try to update the superuser zip file using CWM, I am getting an error stating its a bad file. I tried downloading other versions of the superuser zip file and I am still getting the bad file error in CWM.
Please let me know where am I going wrong and what should I change to successfully root the ICS version of At&T i717.

I just want to mention that the Odin part works fine and then after I install the Super user from the SD card I had to to do 2 attempts cuz the 1st one said operation aborted, then after the 2nd attempt it was successful and reset the phone I did not have any problem ( just a message in the phone saying android updating applications) . Less than one minute after this, My phone was rooted and the super user updated by itself from the PLAY… Thanks!!

I have T-Mobil Galaxy note. When I first tried to put it into download mode by just holding “volume down” button it wasn’t working. Then I saw suggestion to hold down “Volume down” and “Volume U'”. This does put the phone in another state , but it’s asking if I want to re-boot, download from external source and a few other options. I’m definitely not getting the warning screen as shown in this tutorial. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  170. Dave says:

Thanks – this worked fine for me (on Telus, with ICS 4.0.4) – but only after trying the extra tip printed at the very end of the how-to, regarding holding the Vol. Up and Vol. Down buttons immediately upon seeing “PASS” on the Odin screen.

Hoping that Jean-Francois Belanger already found this out – it sounds as if I had the same problem that he describes, and the extra tip for ICS users fixed it.

again – a big THANKS for your work in putting this how-to together!

You don’t, when you install custom ROM, it will go away or you can do this:

Just an FYI: Your instruction in Step 12 is different than the video, and you may want to change it: the video says once the phone resets, the person should keep holding down BOTH VOLUME buttons while letting go of the POWER BUTTON. But your Step 12 above states: “When your phone resets (you will feel little vibration and the screen will turn off), keep holding down the Volume Down button but let go of the Power button.” I tried just keeping the VOLUME DOWN button held, and the phone went back into the “downloading” screen with the green guy. When I watched your video, I noticed the difference, and when I kept holding down BOTH VOLUME buttons, the Apply Upgrade (blue text options) screen did come up.

  185. daVinnie says:

  190. Jasminder Bangar says:

    I’m on Rogers. I have SGH i717r with ICS 4.04 ruxlf4

I followed instructions to install the recovery/backup rom image to my phone. I unhooked the cable after update with windows software. Phone rebooted via software auto-reboot checkmark[enabled]. After reboot I used cloud storage such as sugarsync to transfer the files to my phone. I copied the files to the phone from the cloud on the external sd card.
I held down VOLUME UP+VOLUME DOWN simultaneously and then held down the power button until I felt a vibration then let go of only the power button and waited for the reboot into the recovery mode. I then installed the rooting rom.

I believe the process works as of November 25, 2012.

You cannot record phone calls or back up your device properly or at all without a good rooting.
One step that is missing here is to always backup onto an empty SD Card before installing rooting so you have your unique personalized pre-rooted environment handy in case something bad happens to you in the rooted world.

Forget it, I figured it out. I missed that paragraph that starts with “With Android 4.0.4 update”. Once I read that and followed the instructions, it worked.

I’ve followed the steps till #6 where it says to run run odin3 v1.85.exe. when i run it the oden flashes on the screen then disappears. i have tried it on another computer thinking maybe it was that. i’m not sure what the issue is. can you please advise what i can do or check.

I just got an at&t galaxy note and I have it unlocked for use in T-Mobile.I rooted it and flashed different roms from your website like padawan, official uclf6 ics, paranoid rom,OnlyOne rom.I followed all instructions on your website.I flashed different T-Mobile radio modems but my speed still slow to nothing.I used also the *#2263#
to get to edge signal and its faster than when it says connected to 4g.What did I do wrong or is my phone defective?I got it on ebay.Hope you can help me……..Thanks

    Hi There
I was just trying to unroot back to the Stock telus Rom, and its stuck on the black samsung screen, any ideas?
I have tried to redo a new rom as well, and the Recovery thing is still on the phone, but when I try to reinstall Liquid Jelly Bean its all screwed up when it starts. Home button doesnt work, no usb connection.

  196. Psyco Mike says:

AWESOME!!!! The easiest root EVER!!! Just moved over to the NOTE from a DELL Streak…Now I can truly enjoy my Note!!!!!Thanks so much!

  197. As of today’s date, will this still work on my AT&T Samung Note i717?
Since the post and thread are several months old, I figured I better ask – I’m a noob, and this would be my first rooting.

    • Damond says:

Hey Ron, flashing CWM through Odin will, however the Superuser .zip might not. If your device is GB the Superuser .zip will work. If you’re running ICS it won’t install. No need to fret though as many custom ROMs will have the SU app built in already. Have fun ROMming!

      • John says:

so since you said that the that is provided on this site will not install on ICS firmware, I’ll just do step 1-9 and my note will be rooted or do i also install a custom rom that has a SU app to root my note?

  199. Deborah Petersen says:

I am at a loss. I rooted my phone and got to step 10 and my phone gets stuck on a black screen after it says “PASS” in Odin. I am trying to put the next file onto the internal SD card. I have my client database and schedule on my phone so I am really freaking out how to get my phone up and running. I did read the “Android update 4.0” and followed those directions and could eventually get into Clockwork Recovery mode but don’t know how to go to the next step of unzipping the file that is suppose to be on the sd card. Please advise me what to do. :((
Thanks for any direction you can give!

  201. caedon says:

Mine doesn’t boot in the clockwork recovery. I put it in download mode or whatever. connect it to pc. it shows up in device manager, i run the odin. everything goes smooth, the phone reboots. i disconnect it from my pc, then hold the buttons down like im supposed to, but it brings me back to the warning screen again where i have to hitt he up arrow. i do that, then im back at step one :/ I am using a canadian galaxy note. does that make a difference? or is this strictly for the AT&T one? help!

  202. caedon says:

    its a Glaxy Note SGH-i717D

    • Dorian says:

You need to press both up and down volume buttons together to get to the recovery image. I believe you are only pressing down. I too have a roger Note and I am able to get to the recovery image but not the Clockwork Mod one. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

  203. Daniel says:

Hi Thanks for the great tutorial!
I got stuck at some point
    I have a Rogers SGH-I717R
I copied the superuser zip file to the SD card root and made the (volume up+volume down + power ) restart.
Seems like the ‘install zip from sdcard’ is not one of the option.
    What could be the problem?

any info on how to root the att galaxy note i717 on a mac yet

  206. Dee says:

I didn’t read every comment, but a HUGE step you missed is to pull the battery as it rebooting after installing CWM Recovery. It wouldn’t work otherwise on my i717D (Telus Canada). Cheers.

PS – Odin 1.85 worked fine (Run As Admin) on Parallels for Mac.

  207. Dorian says:

I am trying to root my galaxy note SGH 1717 with ICS 4.0.4 by following your video tutorial however I am not having any luck. I use ODIN to flash Clockworkmod recovery but even though ODIN reports that it has “PASSED” I still keep booting in the stock recovery image. Thoughts?

    • Bill says:

I had the same problem at first. Make sure you are timing the button pushes. Press up and down volume and power. Wait till you fell the vibrate then let go of the power. It will go into CWM recovery. At least mine did.

  208. andrew says:

awesome tutorial now my galaxy note is 10x better! I was a bit confused getting into download mode so i did some side research on youtube and found this pretty straightforward guide on how to do it

  210. rahil says:

plz help me.for some reason i cant find the file
    wat do i do?

  211. MyGalaxyNoteRocks says:

    Excellent guide, Max!
I would put the “With Android 4.0.4 update” instructions under step 9 but otherwise another great root guide. You have been my go-to guy for anything Android for a while now.

  212. Martin says:

Worked for me on SGH-i717M from Bell Canada with the provided files and instructions. Have got root now, thanks Max

Now I’m in USA, so I’m gonna try to flash T-mobile radios

  213. Chris L. says:

Great tutorial and I confirm this is working with the Galaxy Note SGH-I717R (Rogers) model…

hey max im having trouble simply downloading the zip file, every site i find brings me to the same site where its seemingly unavailable, frustrating… anywhere else i can dl it?

  215. nani says:

  217. ski says:

  218. Marc says:

Ive just purchased a t mobile galaxy note and was wondering if the rooting method is EXACTLY the same as att? including down to installing the att files into the t mobile sgh t879 device?

  219. Long says:

  220. k says:

  221. Moh says:

When i extract “odin_ni717_cwm_recovery” the files that comes out of it is a “IMG” File that says “recovery.img” and that wont show up when i press “PDA” what do i do ?

  222. Mike says:

In the odin, the yellow highlighted COM comes up. Any ideas?

  223. Lou says:

Love the videos Max. I decided to root the phone yesterday. Well. Still unrooted. I thought it was something I had not done. I have a Canadian Telus Note i717DTTLF4 (v 4.0.4), build IMM76D.TTLF4.

I followed all the instructions. ODIN reported that flashed with CWM (the new one).
I rebooted and pressed the appropriate buttons and it continues to boot into the stock
Android Recovery e3. So I thought it might have been the manner in which I pressed
the button. Doesn’t look like it. I’ve rebooted a number of times and I never
    see CWM.

Phone boots correctly and it operational. I just can’t get CWM upon reboot.

I could really use root on this phone.

    Thank you for any assistance.

  224. ERIC HARDY says:

Is there a rooting method for the new JB update that was just released on May 3, 2013. I attempted to root my note using the above method to no avail… since it was for ICS… but i can not find a way to root it now that i upgraded to JB 4.1.1…. PLEASE ADVISE! THX

    • suparedJFK says:

I got it. Follow the link below and install this superuser zip from CWMrecovery instead of the one that was included here:

Just go to CWM and install this one – nothing else needed to do even though you already tried to install the other SU zip. Just install this new one and it will work on reboot.

  225. Scott says:

Doesn’t seem to work with the new AT&T JB update. Locked up my phone, which I was able to get back to life using a Kies workaround.

Was a great root method for ICS as it worked really well as did the adding of the T-Mobile radio. Now I have JB and no T-Mobile radio :<(

  226. GK246 says:

Can you please update the guide on how to Root AT&T i717 JB stock and update the modem to work with T-Mobile network.

  227. vice86 says:

Yes please fill us in, can’t seem to find anything online that tell you how to root i717 with official JB.

  228. Woods says:

I agree with vice86 and GK246 any update on this would be appreciated.

  229. Lou says:

Update for new Telus (Canada) JB of May 9, 2013, 4.1.2, i717DTLMD1, build: JZ054K.I717DTLMD1 would be nice.

  230. Robert Vest says:

When will the new jelly bean update on the att sgh-i717 have access to tmobile hspa? Or how do you do it?

    • Gerardo says:

look for the UMCD3 modem and install it using odin under pda. 🙂 i get 4glte and im on tmobile. works perfectly.

  231. suparedJFK says:

Max. Can we get an official root method for the Jelly Bean update just rolled out to the Note? I unrooted for the update, updated, then tried to root via this method. CWM installs and SU says it installed after a few tries, but SU won’t run saying I need a rooted ROM.

    • suparedJFK says:

I got it. Follow the link below and install this superuser zip from CWMrecovery instead of the one that was included here:

  232. Martin says:

Max, Jelly Bean is out for the SGH-i717. Is the rooting method the same for JB i717? Please update the page. Thanks!

  233. Rico says:

well i give up…i asked twice on twitter only to not get an answer but see that he’s active answering other folks everyday.

there is a guy on Youtube that lets you know…haven’t done it yet though

  234. ERIC HARDY says:
Follow the above link and the steps on the linked page and you will be able to root your Note that is running on the new JB update….

  235. suparedJFK says:

ok, so I got it for all of you that want to root from the Jelly Bean update. I had replied, but Max has it set to require “moderation’ where a link is supplied. Remove the asterisks from the links below.

Do everything as the tutorial above tells you, but the Superuser file provided will not work with this version of JB. Follow the link below and install this superuser zip from CWMrecovery instead:

You can see what people have to say about this, but I assure you it is legitimate. I am running it now and I can say that this stock ROM rooted is so much better than the other ROMs for the Note.

Just go to CWM and install this one – nothing else needed to do even though you already tried to install the other SU zip. Just install this new one and it will work on reboot.

  236. Woods says:

Once rooted is there anything I can do to help with battery drain? Since the update my battery performance has been horrible.

  237. Moe Fugga says:

Thanks, JFK. Worked like a charm.

  238. Graffiti Kidd says:

Well this didn’t work for me… I have a SGH-I717r and everything seems to be a problem. When I try to install the package from the SD/Internal, it starts and then when it reaches the signature verification stage it fails… saying Failed to verify signature. I am stuck. Please help

  239. ramon rodriguez says:

tried it but it didnt work i downloaded root checker and it says i have no acces to root and on titanium back up it says : “ERROR:verify that your rom is rooted and try again!! HELP

  240. Chris says:

Did you ever find a solution for this on a MAC? You kinda left us OSX users hanging…

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry. I’m just an idiot. I flashed the attstock and did the root process over again and it worked like a charm. Your instructions on getting into recovery mode are slightly off though in this tutorial. After some searching, I was able to find your youtube video and got it no problem. Thanks for the awesome job!

Hey. While trying to root my Note, my computer would no longer recognize my phone, so I couldn’t complete Step 10. Using a different computer I was able to finally get the file onto my phone.

Now I’m trying start the root process over again (a few days later), but Odin is not giving me the RESET! message. Can I just pick up at Step 10 without re-doing the previous steps?

  257. amilayajr says:

Your rooting will not be successful and the author is funny saying that if it fails just keep trying steps 13 to 16. Please do more research a bit. It will not work most of the time if you don’t wipe cache partition in CWM recovery mode. Then install from zip SU and you will be on your way!

  258. Garrett says:

I’ve rooted my phone before and had it rooted for a long time, using this same process. Had to un-root and re-root as I was having problems.
