Rooting your Galaxy Note can allow you to install rooted apps like Titanium Backup app, Android Wifi Tether app, and brings you full control over your Galaxy Note smartphone.
Why root your Galaxy Note?
There’s a ton of reasons but you can watch this video on why you should root your Galaxy Note.
How to Root Your Galaxy Note! (This is for GT-N7000 models)
This method works on all Windows, Mac, and Linux computers. This is rooting method for Gingerbread on Galaxy Note. When ICS is available for Galaxy Note, we will have another tutorial.
If you want to install custom ROMs, I will have another tutorial on that. But this method gives you root without touching anything so you won’t lose anything but gain root.
For AT&T/Telus/Bell/Rogers Galaxy Note i717, see this root method instead!!!
Step 1. Put your Galaxy Note into USB Debugging mode by checking USB Debugging ON under Settings->Applications->Development. Then connect your Galaxy Nexus to your computer via a micro-USB cable.
Step 2. For Mac and Linux, driver installation is not required, skip to Step 3. For Windows, install Galaxy Note drivers by downloading the file below and running it.
Download Samsung Galaxy Note Windows Drivers
To verfiy that drivers are working correctly, go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Device Manager. You should see “Samsung Android ADB Interface”.
Step 3. Download GalaxyNoteRoot.zip below, unzip it.
Download GalaxyNoteRoot.zip
For Windows, double-click and run runme.bat.
For Mac, double-click and run runmemac.sh. Or you might have to run it in terminal like this:
sh runmemac.sh
For Linux, double-click and run runmelinux.sh. Or you might have to run it in terminal like this:
sh runmelinux.sh
Step 4. Rooting should take around 5 minutes and your Galaxy Nexus will reboot when done rooting.
Step 5. Verify that you have SuperUser app, if you do congratulations, you’ve rooted your Galaxy Nexus! You can verify even further by installing a root app such as Titanium Backup app.
If for some reason you don’t get root with this method, try Galaxy Note Root Method 2.

This root method i sthe best I ever found till now, cuz at least It does some, I see some correct response on Terminal, but I see It cant copy SU and SuperUser.apk, right?
What can I do to root my G Note?
tnx
Nim
It’s because you have 2.3.6 this method only works on 2.3.5
i had that problem because of the antivirus witch deletes the zergRuch file
Proper solution…My antivirus was deleting the files when downloaded and making them read only
I’ve got the same Problem and the same fails.
ehi guys! Why did u delete my comment? I’ve posted a error log shown by the Terminal using your method!
Please can u guys re-publish my comment and explain to me (and other users) how to fix that error?
Thanks!
this doesn’t work with MAC Lion..when i click on sh runmemac.sh it just opens textedit n does nothing. can u post a video on mac how to do it
This worked 100% perfectly for me thanks so much. Saved me a lot of time and hassle.
Nothing..I try and try again…nada!

Gi, seems like you are fxk and no one gives a fxk.
It worked beautifully with a little tweak. I used the already installed adb on my mac instead of the adb-mac binary in the download package. There are tons on howtos on how to install adb on a mac. Here is one: http://esausilva.com/2010/10/02/how-to-set-up-adb-android-debug-bridge-in-mac-osx/
Test the connection with the phone connected with a USB-cable (“adb devices”)
The response should read something like:
——-
List of devices attached
304D1936A53424AE device
——-
If your phone is found you can prceed with the rooting process:
enter the GalaxyNoteRoot directory (“cd GalaxyNoteRoot”)
edit runmemac.sh to change the second line: “varadb=adb-mac” to read “varadb=adb-mac-local” instead
symlink adb-mac-local to adb on your mac (“ln -s /Applications/android-sdk-mac_86/platform-tools/adb adb-mac-local”
Now run the script (“sh runmemac.sh”)
Worked for me anyway.

Hey Nim,
I had the same problem – the issue is that the latest firmware updates have patched the vulnerability that ZergRush exploits to get root access.
To fix it, you need to flash older firmware from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997&page=90
If you prefer to use your new firmware and still get root, there’s instructions for that in post 3, although it’s a little cryptic.
Cheers
Richard

Here it goes! I’ve found out why I have these error in the output, even on Mac and PC:
The Kernel KL (kl7-kl8) are patched! So they cant be rooted with this Onclickroot method…
All ppl have a KL kernel version cant root the phone till the XDA developper, or other genial guys, find out a new root method to “jump around” this anti-root patch!
Thanks Max for ur no-help!

I tried twice and install Superuser.apk manually then nothing… Is there any work around??
It was my fault had the program was in the wrong directory. After changing rooted my Note in less than 3 minutes. Excellent. Free now.
You can solve this problem on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1462309

Hi, the GalaxyNoteRoot.zip seems like corrupted. I can’t extract it in Linux nor windows.
Hi
Thanx for the great Guide
But is there anyway to remove this Root?
Hi,
the provided files in the ZIP above didn’t work for my newly purchased Note (Bought in early Feb in Germany).
I used Linux and the problem was, that my Device was not recognized on the USB Cable.
It hung after

I got it working with the adb from the Androd-SDK

Maybe that helps other people with the same problem
I have the same problem with NIM. My Galaxy is still not rooted.
Please help.
ti backup says:
Sorry, i could not aqcuire root privilages. This application will *not* work ! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BuzyBox, and try again.
Thanks in advance.
have the same a.m. problem, not root at all.
I guess this is as I am on XX..LA4, LA2 (latest update 2.3.6)
we probably need a new exploit to root like this here. Guess it would work well with ODIN, but I don’t want to install any new ROM or Kernel just simply root.
However, if somebody knows a way out, pls let me know by Email:

I have th same problem as Nim…
I have the same issue as Nim. Though I believe that my problem starts with the samsung drivers. They install but at the end I receive an error message saying that the “Base System Device” drivers can’t be found. I’ve tried with the phone plugged in in USB debugging mode and my AV/firewall off and I ran the drivers with admin privileges.
And I’ve tried with admin privileges off, with the phone unplugged, with newer drivers and with the original cable and other micro USB cables and every other combination i can think of. I’ve even tried on 2 computers with the same problem.
I have no idea what’s wrong. Any ideas anyone?
i have rooted my galaxy note via the eaasy method and i want to ask how to unroot it i need it to claim my warranty… hope you can provide this info
Here’s what I changed to the instructions for Linux to make it work :
First make the executables actually executable : after unzip in temporary directory, I chose GalaxyNoteRoot/
~/galaxynote/GalaxyNoteRoot/ # chmod +x *
Then what TOM said; replace adb 1.0.25 with a newer one (I got 1.0.29) which could actually connect to my device. Install Android SDK (http://developer.android.com/sdk/) to get newer adb and copy it over adb-linux :
~/galaxynote/ # cp android-sdk-linux/platform-tools/adb GalaxyNoteRoot/adb-linux
Hope this helps someone

Cheers!
i get no errors but the phone is too much slower and the rooted applications are not working like i dont have a superuser access.
I think for those users who has upgraded their Galaxy Note from Android 2.3.5 to 2.3.6, they need to downgrade your firmware back to 2.3.5 first before root it.
Can anyone confirm this?
Thank you.
I have the same problem I got 2.3.6 ver & the rooting method doesn’t work. Guess we have to downgrade to an older ver but don’t what exact ver we need to root Galaxy NOte. I also wanna know how to unroot it.
Confirm, for those have upgraded to official 2.3.6 firmware….you need to downgrade it back to 2.3.5 first before using this method..
This does not work at all on a Linux box. Every line of the script says:
./runmelinux.sh: ./adb-linux: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
I do not know what teh shared object ld-linux.so.2 is, but it is not part of the package.
Well it almost works. I had to install the missing lib files. I am a Redhat Linux admin so I actually some hope that this might eventually work when I have some more time (and I do not have anymore today). Most home Linux users out there are Ubuntu users. As a rule they are not Linux savvy enought to know what a .deb, or .rpm file is. I bet there are few that know what yum means. How could they have any hope? I would remove any references to Linux unless you plan to explain this sort of stuff.
Thanx;
