For this week, I am running Rocket ICS ROM version 10 on my rooted Galaxy Note GT-N7000(please DO NOT FLASH on i7171). I think this is the “best ROM” this week as I have tried the latest versions of all the ROMs. Of course, every week it changes as ROM developers make changes and upload new versions. But I really feel like Rocket ICS ROM v10 is the way to go “right now”.

And if you don’t like this ROM, try Criskelo ICS ROM or KingDroid ICS ROM, both which are also just as good as Rocket ICS ROM. Honestly, I tend to switch between those three most often and go with the one that gives me the features I need.

Many of you are also running Rocket ICS ROM (and you are the ones who told me this is the best ROM ever!) so if you haven’t tried this ROM (the latest version) yet, give it a go and let me know what you think!

Download Rocket ICS ROM
Download SpeedMod ICS Kernel (optional, I love this kernel, highly recommended it! Just install right after the ROM.)

    Hi Max,

Just wanted to say that I have installed the ROM and Kernel. All look good so far.

    Regards,

    Shiraz.

  2. Ratz says:

Ah Max, i cant stop with one ROM during five days and then they update another new one… omg!

  3. opiujn says:

Thanks for the review Max! =) Ive actually not tried Rocket since the early versions, will be nice to try it out today.

  4. kartik says:

do i have to flash abyss kernel before

    • opiujn says:

Flashing Abyss 4.2 and reboot recovery is recommended to lower risks of bricking phone. =) then proceed with wipe and install rom.

  5. Anthony says:

    Hi,
I’m now using a custom ROM with ICS 4.0.3 and Galaxy S3 theme, WCMod
    Baseband version: is N7000XXLP1
    Kennel version: 3.0.15-N7000XXLQ3-CL646962
    Build number: IML74K.XXLQ3
ROM version: CriskeloROM Note ICS v0.7
This ROM very good looking. But I felt it too slow, device with very hot when using internet some multimedia apps, and also the battery life very short than before.
So, I want to try this RocketROM v10 now. Is it possible flash it?
    Thanks in advance.

    Anthony

  7. Tony says:

I just bought a Tmobile galaxy note anybody know how to root it? i try holding down the power button and holding down the volume key and it does’nt work useing odin. I can’t get to go into download mode. any clues how to do this it just reboots doing it this way.

  8. Stuck! says:

Hi, I installed the kernel and rom OK, but after I went through the device encryption process (required to get onto my outlook email), the resulting reboot left me to login with pw in german, and now im stuck at a blue android logo. I can see the I with a cross through it on the upper left corner and 3g connection level bars, power symbol and clock on the upper right, but the phone doesn’t seem to get any further.

What can I do? When I try to enter the cwm screen the device wont recognize my micro sd card either so I can’t access the roms/ kernels I have stored there.

    Please help,

    Thanks

    • Unstick! says:

Update, I’ve gotten unstuck by flashing franco kernel back on. Apparently it could read the micro sd card too so everything is working correctly. The rom is very nice, but I probably wont try to go back to the speed kernel.

  9. opiujn says:

    Hi Anthony,
I have sent a link, but the message with link is “awaiting moderation” and it might take some time before visible here. Meanwhile you can find the Abyss 4.2 in category “Galaxy Note Recovery”, in post for “How to install ICS ROM on Rooted Galaxy Note GT-N7000”.

  10. opiujn says:

On my phone the preview display in camera app lag a lot, it feels like if the fps for that has been set very low or something. But it is perfectly smooth and fine as soon I switch to video recording mode. Anyone else having the same issue or know how to fix? Its not a big deal really, pictures taken are looking fine.. still kind of annoying that it lag so much when it could be smooth though. lol ๐Ÿ˜€

  11. Simon says:

I am on rooted stock 4.0.4, do i need to use abyss kernel or can i just install the rom through CWM?

    • opiujn says:

      Hi Simon =)
Abyss kernel 4.2 is not the only kernel that is “safe”. But I wouldnt take any risks since one can read about people bricking their phones every day. If I were you I would backup rom then install Abyss 4.2 and REBOOT recovery, then wipe and install rom file. Dont forget to put rom file on SD first.

      • Simon says:

Thanks, i’ll give it a try, will full wipe remove everything?(photos etc)

        • opiujn says:

Your photos and stuff on int and ext sd will still be there, but you will loose apps, contacts, sms, rom inbuilt wallpapers, settings and such. Titanium backup is a good thing, and cwm backup your rom. Check Max’s videos about how to install and read about the emmc brick

    • opiujn says:

Also, if you do a fresh installation with Abyss and wipe you will probably get a more stable rom. I dont think installing this on stock is a good idea, but I havent tried.

      • Simon says:

ok, only asked as this is whats on th rocketmod forum on xda
b1) coming from RocketROM v1 โ€“ v9 or other rooted Samsung ICS-Custom-ROM or rooted ICS Stock ROM (No Wipe):

        โ€“ Flash ROM
        โ€“ reboot system
        -โ€ฆyou are done

    • opiujn says:

Yes, as long as you are on another kernel than Abyss 4.2 or a kernel that you don’t know for sure is safe you should NOT full wipe. =) if you install it over your stock without wipe and everything is working fine without bugs and fc, then everything is good. Me myself I prefer to install most roms with Abyss method.. often bugs appear when mixing roms together.

  13. Simon says:

Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated, backed up apps with TB and did a rom backup a few days ago so will give it all a try, thanks again ๐Ÿ™‚

    • opiujn says:

Glad to help =) ..be careful and don’t brick your Note.

      • Simon says:

done and dusted and everything went fine, thanks for the help and loving the rocketrom, much better than stock ๐Ÿ™‚

        • opiujn says:

Nice to hear it’s running fine! ๐Ÿ˜€ ..for my needs and for the way I use my phone this is the best so far. But it can shift quickly, new roms and rom versions are released all the time. It’s a never ending flashing lol.

  14. Rahul says:

can i use speedmod kernel for criskelo ROM???

  15. Rhoobarb says:

Hi Max. I am a complete noob to this so I would like to ask what is the process to put this on a rooted stock kernel & rom? is it.

    flash abyss
    reboot
    flash cm10
    reboot
    flash abyss
    reboot
    flash speedmod

Do i need to do anything else? (presuming I dont know much more than running cwm and rebooting). i read here and there in the comments sections about clear and wipe but no definite instructions so im not sure when to do this, or if there are any other exact details that I need to know?

    Thanks for any help

    • Rhoobarb says:

sorry, meant rocket not cm10. not sure why i put that :S

      • Max says:

You can skip the steps between rom install and kernel. For kernels u can flash without wipe just fine just make sure u flash abyss and reboot recover before doing a factory reset.

        • Rhoobarb says:

          OK, so as I understand it;
Flashing kernels only = straight from cwm, no wipe or abyss needed.
Flashing Full CFW = Flash abyss, reboot to recover, factory reset, then flash cfw.

          Many Thanks Max
          Much Appreciated

          • Rhoobarb says:

And I see it also supports CIFS Manager, not sure if thats the Kernel (speedmod) or the Rom (rocket) but thanks again Max, excellent tuts ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. Tony says:

can you root a tmobile galaxy note ?

  17. Tony says:

Can you root a T-Mobile galaxy note? i like to root mine.

    • opiujn says:

Hi Tony =) ..I have no idea what a T-mobile is lol? But if it is a N7000 or i717 I would guess you can use Max’s guides to root it.

  18. notawiz says:

    • buda says:

download a stock GB rom that can be flashed using pc odin, enter downlod mode and after youve flashed wipe all data in recovery before turning on,, otherwise it will keep forse closing and crashig

  19. wagiono says:

Download SpeedMod ICS Kernel (optional, I love this kernel, highly recommended it! Just install right after the ROM.) why must be just instal after the rom?. Last night I have instaled Rocket ICS ROM v10 can to day I instal speedMod ICS ?. After tray Rocket for me is best rom
    Thanks for your help

    • wagiono says:

another probem after install rocket, my computer did no deteck my galaxynote phone, why?

      • opiujn says:

That is strange. Have you tried to reboot phone and computer? Tested another USB slot on your computer? Doesn’t your phone or computer respond in any way to connection when you plug it in?
Yes, now you can install the ics speedmod kernel if you like. Just backup rom first. You install the kernel after rom install because before installation you probably flashed abyss, and during installation it switches to another kernel that is compatible with rom, and after you can install the kernel you prefer to have. =)

        • wagiono says:

thx for replay i will start install the ics speedmod kernel. Yes I tray to change usbslot i will tray all. Thx for your answer

  23. simonthebald says:

    Hello there,

My phone is GT-N7000, rooted and still using stock ROM, have downloaded RoeketROM v.10, after several tries, I could not success flashing it, only the following message appeared:

    E: signature verification failed

Would anyone there tells me what this message means and any solution suggested?
    Thank you in advance.

    • opiujn says:

Hi! =) Maybe you are still on stock recovery and not clockworkmod (cwm) recovery?

      • simonthebald says:

        Thanks opiujn,

Yes, you are right, I just used the most simple way to root the machine instead of other methods. Are you meaning that I must take the root by means of cwm recovery?

        Thanks again.

        • opiujn says:

Yes, in some way you need to get cwm recovery flashed to your phone if it isn’t there already. There are many ways to to that, but it was a long time since I did it myself. I think you will be able to find all info you need here among Max’s tutorials ๐Ÿ˜€
Last time I just Odin flashed Abyss 4.2 to make it quick, but make sure you have the rom installation file on phone if you do that, and a an ics kernel too if something goes wrong, because you will not be able to boot phone (if stock ics) as long you are on Abyss 4.2(gb). I think Odin flashing Abyss also will increase your binary count and give you that warning triangle (which can be removed too if you are familiar with Triangle Away app or jig). The best way will probably be to check Max’s tutorials and use a way he recommend =) Make sure you know everything you need to know about how to use Abyss 4.2 and also emmc brick before you flash new rom.

        • opiujn says:

Need to be both rooted and have a cwm recovery, then you are good to go for the roms ๐Ÿ˜‰

          • simonthebald says:

much appreciate your detailed introduction and l’m cleared what I missed. Will go through Max’s tutorial and try again.

BTW, is the gapps already included in the rom or I need to find some where else?

            Thank you =]

            • opiujn says:

Glad to help! If you don’t find it, then let me know and I’ll see if I can find a link or something. Yes, the gapps are included in rom =)

  24. Rye says:

Hi, I have installed ICS official with this kernel : CF-Root-SGN_ZS_OZS_LPF-v5.3-CWM5. I did it using Odin. It works fine, but I want to get ROCKET or KINGSDROID, but it doesnยดt work when I tried on Recovery mode.
    Any helpยฟยฟ

    Thank you

  25. Blackout says:

Hi Max. I really love the Rocket Rom. Everything works Pecfectly. HOWEVER, I really your help about one problem i got. The battery life goes down very fast. Is there anything you can suggest. Please reply.
    Thanks.

  26. Baldev says:

I tried using Criskelo ROM and even like it but the only concern I have is with the phone heating up like a frying PAN…any suggestions Max

    • Max Payne :D says:

yep,now i was using this Rom but before that i was using Criskelo Rom i also have the same Issue, max Help us…

  27. Blackout says:

ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME. I really love the Rocket Rom. Everything works Pecfectly. HOWEVER, I really your help about one problem i got. The battery life goes down very fast. I fully charged my phone almost 2 hours ago and now it’s 40% already and still decreasingvthe battery life.Is there anything you can suggest. Please reply.Thanks.

    • opiujn says:

Have you tried to calibrate battery to see if it help? You can find free apps for that on Play Store. And check what it is that drains your battery. =)

      • Blackout says:

Yup! I’ve done it already. Brightness has set to the lowest already. Power saving is activated. No apps yet because just upgraded from criskelo v7. It was not like this when i was on the previous ROM. I haven’t downloaded any battery saver apps (whatever it is). And now it is only 34% battery percentage remaining. I dont know what’s wrong with it. Hopefully you can help me. And i will really highly appreciate it. ๐Ÿ™

  28. opiujn says:

Did you calibrate/reset battery stats with app or in cwm recovery?
What is it that drain your battery when you look in settings > battery?

    • Blackout says:

I just did the reset battery stats via CWM. When i checked, it is the android system that consumes a lot. But there has no application added except for the facebook which i recently added from Play Store and nothing more.

      • opiujn says:

Ok, that is strange.. Ive flashed almost every rom and rom version Ive seen and that has never happened to me, so I’m sorry to say I don’t know how to advice. I use my phone a lot and on my Note its always the screen that consume most of my battery (70-85% whenever I check). I have no idea why this is happening on your phone. But try remove and insert battery, then fully charge it. When fully charged run “Battery Calibration” app from Play Store, its free, the app made by NEMA. And see if it become any better. How exactly did you install this rom? Did you do a clean fresh install with Abyss full wipe before installing?

        • Max Payne :D says:

i also Noticed Battery Issue, which Rom are you using opiujn ? or can you tell me which is Best Rom which is Stable and no Battery issue like this?

          • opiujn says:

            Hiya Max Payne =)
I played that Max Payne game on PC many years ago, it was really cool, the first game! ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m running Rocket v10 as primary rom and dual-boot some other roms, but I don’t have the battery draining issues you experience. I have my screen on most of the time at 100% and that does for sure drain battery fast as hell. But the hours I dont touch phone battery life seem to be just fine and normal comparing to similar roms as KD 7.1 or Criskelo 11.1 and in comparison with stock. Have you tried to change kernel and modem btw? Maybe it could make some difference? I never tried the kernel this rom comes with since I need a dual-boot kernel.

      • opiujn says:

Another experiment you can try later on is to put phone in “flight mode” during some hours you dont need it, for example at night. If it still drain battery fast something in your rom is for sure really messed up.

        • Max Payne :D says:

did you tried this rom? no battery issue? how to flash it? can you explain me tut again?

          i done this –

          flashed Abyss 4.2.
          rebooted to recovery
          wipe cache
          wipe dalvik
          full wipe
          flashed this rom

          is it right?

          • opiujn says:

It is pretty much the same way I did it, it should be fine =) I ran:
            – Abyss and then rebooted recovery
            – wipe data/factory reset
            – wipe dalvik
            – rom installation

            • Max Payne :D says:

installed Battery Calibration and run it,also remove battery and put it back after 2 mins. now let see what happens,i will provide feedback ๐Ÿ™‚
and yeah i am big Max Payne Fan ๐Ÿ˜€ do you have a gmail account? we can chat about this…:)

and thank you very much for feedback ๐Ÿ™‚

I sent my gmail, but the message is still “awaiting moderation” as comments containing links doe. It might take some time for it to appear.

  29. bhavit sharma says:

  30. opiujn says:

I have not much experience in battery issues myself so thank YOU for testing this ๐Ÿ˜€
You can e-mail me on this address: benny.ringstrom@gmail.com. Guess Max will hang and shoot and stab us if discussing Payne and Alan Wake computer games in here LOL. I saw that Max has recommended a kernel for this rom. The SpeedMod kernel, have you tried it? And if you have, did you notice any difference when it comes to battery issues? =)

  31. Wendy says:

    Hi folks
    Two questions :
1- I’m coming from Criskelo ROM V7 ( kernel LQ3 ) what is the procedures for install it ? is it 1- reboot into recovery 2- flash the Abyss 3- reboot into recovery 3- flash the ROM ?

    2- Criskel v10 Or RocketRom v10 ?

    • opiujn says:

      Hi pal! =)
      1. Flash Abyss 4.2 2.reboot recovery 3.wipe data/factory reset 4.wipe dalvik 5. Install rom.

To your second question I think you should try both and decide for yourself ๐Ÿ˜€ both roms are very good!

  36. Max Payne :D says:

RocketRom v10 is best for me,i also using Criskelo ROM V7 before flashing this rom(2 days ago :)) this rom is Awesome for me ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. Tipos says:

    Hi, guys,

    Two questions:

    1) I installed Rocket 10 no problem, standard method as per Max’s instructions. Since couple of guys performed full wipe and dalvik wipe at the same time and I did not, does that make any difference? Should I wipe dalvik now?

    2) I installed the other kernel upon installation of Rocket 10 and I got CWM 3.15 Chainfire instead of 5.5 (I think..) that I had before. Now every time I open CWM it gives me the following text: This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-Root v5.0 or newer. It appears you are running a different kernel. Various features have been disabled.” After OK, it opens the app.
    Any advice?

    Thanks

    • Tipos says:

      Guys,

Once more, I ask for the assistance in getting this resolved. This is the first time my CWM does not recognize the kernel. One more info: I re-installed everything again from Abyss, this time left the kernel after installing Rocket 10 and the same thing happened: In CWM Kernel-unknown, same message appears…

      Need assistance. Thanks

    • opiujn says:

      1) Hi =) if your rom is stable and fine after installation without wipe then just leave it as it is. If bugs suddenly appear that does not seem to be rom related, then a fresh install with full wipe could be a good thing to try

    • opiujn says:

      Hi Tipos =)
I don’t use the CWM app myself, but I think you need to find and install a CF 5+ kernel for it to work with all options (for example rom backup and so on). On the other hand you probably spend more hours/day using your rom than recovery so I would suggest you install a real good and fast kernel for your phone instead and just leave the CWM app. Those times you need recovery you can do the operations manually by entering recovery mode.

      • Tipos says:

Thanks Opiujn. You are wright of course, but I guess I just wanted everything to be working perfect. Rocket 10 is really good and I enjoy it. Speedmod Kernel that I flashed also works fine, except for the CWM. Now, if you have an advice on what CF 5+ would be good enough to flash the Speedmod out, let me know.

        Cheers!

        • opiujn says:

I can’t advice on CF kernels because I don’t use to flash those. I don’t know if this has changed lately or not, if I understand it right the CF kernels are more or less exactly like a stock kernel, but root and recovery added. At least what I used to read before. Which means that if you flash a 5+ you should be able to get CWM app working, at the same time you will lose all the performance and tweaked settings that has been added to other kernels like speedmod for example. If that information I read on xda long ago was correct and still is then there is in my opinion no CF good enough to flash the speedmod out =)
But you can always Google it, try some of those and see what you think. Installing it will make the CWM app will be fully functional I guess, probably at the cost of some performance loss though.

  38. Frizey says:

    Hi all,

I have been using Rocket (and the recommended kernel) now for a few days after having been on Criskelo v7. Here is my opinion. Firstly, I find it probably eats about the same amount of battery as Criskelo with abyess kernel, if not a little more. Both of which happen to be more thirsty than stock GB. ๐Ÿ™ So far I have had a few bugs. Im running Go Launcher and find that the phone hangs a bit when adding a new widget (something that didnt occur with Criskelo). Instagram also crashes whenever I take a picture. The work around is to open the stock camera and then go to instagram and extract the pic from gallery. Not exactly ideal. I have also noticed the camera crash a few times when switching from portrait to landscape mode.
On the plus side, awesome beats is awesome, though doesnt seem to work with doubleTwist ๐Ÿ™ So to conclude, im thinking of switching to the newest Criskelo, unless, Max you would recommend KingDroid?

Max, on another note. It would be awesome if you did a video reviewing different kernel options as im keen to maximise battery life as Im often without a PC or powerpoint for ages.

    • Frizey says:

Oh, I forgot to mention that I found I lost touch sensitivity with Criskelo, but it works with Rocket. Also S Voice is ok on Rocket, but is little more than a gimic for me as I dont think it does too well understanding an Australian accent.

hey im on rocket rom v10 and I have to keep auto rotate off.

It will rotate Landscape, but won’t return to portrait.

It wil flip Landscape on one side and Landscapeon the other side, but won’t do portrait, till auto rotate is turned off.

Anybody have any suggestions on how to fix this?

I guess I could whack it and start over, but that blows! That would at least tell me something I guess.

It’s really irritating. And I would hate to keep it if it is broke.

when you use the S pen with S Memo, if you leave the zoom level of the note in the pattern is ok, but if you increase the level of zoom and write with the pen, it writes in a different position on the screen.
Does anybody know how to fix it?

    • opiujn says:

I have never ever zoomed in S Memo before, but tried it out now when I saw your comment posted here. I get the same problem. The letters/lines
are drawn far from the pen while writing/drawing during zoom, but it snap to the right place as soon as pen is removed from the screen. I don’t use the pen often and don’t know how to fix it, but please let me kmow if you find a solution =)

      Hello vikas! =)

Max has made text and video tutorials for this.
First check out category GALAXY NOTE ROOT for how to root your phone, and root it.
Then check “How to Install GB/ICS ROM on Rooted Galaxy Note GT-N7000” in category GALAXY NOTE RECOVERY, to install this rom.

Its also a good idea to backup your rom before you install, how to do that you can see in the recovery category too. And dont forget to read how to avoid emmc brick, thats also in that recovery category.

  59. TheFreediver says:

Hy, I just installed last night Rocket Rom v10, but cwm recovery is not working anymore. Do you guys know what I should do? THX!

    • opiujn says:

      Hi Freediver!

I’ts very seldom my cwm-r crash so I don’t have much experience from repairing it and maybe someone else got better and easier solutions than this. But you could try to Odin flash the kernel you want on your rom and you should get a new cwm-r. Or if you have several RR compatible kernels on your sd already you can easily find the odin version of abyss 4.2 here at Max’s site, flash it and then reboot recovery and flash a kernel that works with ics RR. But this will increase your binary count.
Right before I replied to your question I tried to install cwm-r from the app “rom manager” that can be downloaded from Play Store, to see if that works, but it just ended up with soft bricking my phone, haha ๐Ÿ˜€

  60. TheFreediver says:

Hy opiujn and sorry for your softbrick.
Actually I had the same problem before when I flashed abyss 4.2 with mobile odin and I found a thread o xda about this in which they said you have to abyss 4.2 Redphil which it let me do a nandroid before installing Rocket Rom.
I hoped there is a Redphil for the default Roket Rom kernel ;).

    • opiujn says:

      Hi,
The softbrick I got was just a boot loop. Right before I tried installing a recovery from the rom mananger app I made a backup so phone was restored within less than 10min or so =)
Can’t you enter your cwm recovery at all? or can you enter cwm-r but some opetations in there does not work? I haven’t used a Redpill recovery since I was on GB but guess you can find one. What is the next thing you are going to do in recovery when you manage to make it work again?

  61. TheFreediver says:

I can enter the cwm but the only thing that works is reboot lol!
If I can make it work I want it for nandroid backup.
What kernel do you use for ics roms?

    • opiujn says:

Darn.. that sounds tough =ol ..I noted you said only thing working is reboot. But out of curiosity, what exactly happened when you tried to flash another kernel in cwm-r? Don’t try it now though! because if you end up with a softbrick and nothing but reboot works in recovery you’ll have to rely on odin, jtag or similar to revive your phone. But do you remember/noticed any error messages I mean?
I am dualbooting so for the moment I stay with a speedmod dualboot kernel.

    • Max says:

      use the touch buttons.

  62. TheFreediver says:

Well I haven’t tried yet to flash another kernel, that is why I ask if it is a recommended kernel for ics. At the moment I have the default kernel for Rocket Rom which is Note Core v12.
Last time on GB rom was all most the same when I booted in recovery (the only difference volume up&down worked but after that it returned back to reboot so I flashed the red pill with mobile odin).
I’ve seen that there is a difference between: cwm, cwm touch (which some say its buggy) and redpill recovery wich is al so touch but better than cwm touch (the first two are obvious but I didn’t knew there was a difference between the last two).
P.S. What do you dual boot if I’m not to curious?

  63. opiujn says:

I’ve noticed people have very different opinions about which kernel that is the best. And probably that is because people have different setups on their phones.. uses different launchers/apps/games/rom versions and so on. So I can’t really recommend a kernel. Franco, Speedmod, Notecore are some of those that seem to be popular these days though. I would say the best way to find it out is to try all the kernels compatible with your rom, for a few days each, and then keep the one that is the best for you.
I am sorry though to say I don’t know how to further advice on your cwm-r issue. I flash and repair most things in cwm-r and have a few times used odin during emergency trouble. But if your recovery doesn’t work as it is supposed to, not even after odin flashing it, and if you don’t have backups that will work to restore after a “worst case scenario”, I’m not the right person to advice. Just stay low and keep posting your issue here and at xda. And hopefully someone knows how to safely fix it =)
I “dual boot” several roms lol. xD “dual boot” today does not mean just 2. Using RRv10 as primary, and as secondary: KDv7.1, 7.3, 7.4, Criskelo, Alba, ParanoidAndroid, Chracks, MidNote, ICS stock. xD

  64. Ferrarist070 says:

    Hi Max,

First of all thanks for your wonderful site. It saved me a trip to the support center. My Note got simlocked after upgrading to stock 4.0.4 (??????) and I did not know what to do. I rooted my Note using your guide and voila no more simlock. As a matter of fact I got a bit over anxious and started flashing roms like a mad man. From Criskelo to Kingdroid to Rocketrom and back. I must say I love Criskelo and Rocketrom, since I did not get Kingdroid v3 to v7 to run very well even after a thorough swipe of cache and and all. At the moment I am staying with the Rocketrom rom since I think this is the smoothest of them all. NE way full heads up to you Max and of course the Rocketrom team!!!

    Cheers,
    Rob

I have got this ROM working on my Galaxy Note & it is perfect, my only problem is that I have lost Arabic as an input language on the keyboard.

    Thanks

  66. Geoffrey says:

Hey I was just wondering since you recommend Abyss Kernel for Rom installs which is what I am currently running along with a standard Tmobile Gingerbread Rooted anyway I just wanted to clarify if you meant to flash the Abyss kernel before trying any ROMS or flashing any New ROMS.

What I mean by this is I have all the files in this review ready to flash and I was curious about the “SpeedMod” Kernel being something you optionally recommend. Was this to replace Abyss Kernel entirely and not install Abyss anymore thereafter or is SpeedMod just better once an ICS rom is installed on the device. I ask because your Recovery Guide says otherwise and contradicts changing from Abyss to SpeedMod.

I am going to go ahead and flash these to my device since I have made a backup to external micro SD using and as I said above I am currently running Abyss Kernel and have been for sometime now.

My only concern is with this contradiction of which Kernel is best and if I can flash Abyss Kernel from CWM Recovery after I have flashed this ROM and the SpeedMod Kernel, for example if I want to change Roms or try do I have to flash Abyss again first or do recommend SpeedMod now instead.

on that note is SpeedMode required for this Rom to function and what would the draw backs if any from using this over sticking with Abyss Kernel.

Thanks for you time, Your guides are great.

    • Geoffrey says:

Flashed the Rom and Kernel All is working good so far, Went and purchased the Overclock tool for this as well since I already have SetCpu pro version I went and purchased SuperU as well as I also have SuperUser Pro. Figured I might as well have multiple choice in software to run the two most important things for a rooted device at least for me anyway.

I did have an initial issue with Messages Icon not functioning, tap it and it just loaded nothing, however I went back into CWM Recovery and cleared the Partition cache and Delvik cache and all has been running pretty spot on since.

I used Titanium Backup Pro to run a full backup and I removed some useless things like pre installed wallpapers and animated variants – I also removed the Stock Launcher and the one included with the Rom because I have used ADW pro version and its worked great for me a lot faster than most launchers ever have. I own a couple launchers but this one is the one I use the most.

Not sure if I should have removed the stock launcher though If I uninstall this launcher by mistake I could be in for some trouble? I think I will put that one back on just in-case :P.

I have a question though, What exactly would you consider safe to uninstall in Titanium Backup System wise I am not sure exactly is bulk and what is essential.

    • Max says:

Please use Abyss whenever you are installing new ROMs. This is to protect you against from bricking your phone but you don’t have to run Abyss, it’s just for safe installation.

      • Geoffrey says:

Alright Thanks, I’m not sure if it is ICS Rocket Rom or the SpeedMod Kernel but its eating a sufficient amount of battery faster than I would expect before I could get a good 1 hour usage before seeing it reduce to 90% that was also running SetCpu with profiles setup to go as low as 100mhz idle.

Now I can last maybe 20min before it hits around 90% and that is with close to if not better power saving used this time.

  68. king says:

I had installed the rocket rom using Abyss in my GT-N7000 (Asian i assume as I am from Hong Kong, original GB os), but after a while problems occurs. The screen keep on flashing and lost singals (and connection) , which the value of the battery declined sharply (let say 100% and suddenly declined to 65% one a single second) and reboot the phone itself. After reboot the screen will falsh again and the process repeats (however, sometimes the battery value may “recover”to the normal values without charging, which was more or less the estimated usage). At the end I tried to install new roms, but the problem did not solve, and even stucked in the Android/ Samsung screen and then shut down. If I wipe all data (factory reset), I managed to start up with the new rom, but the same problem occurs again within 15 minutes. I had already tried some other roms like Kingdroid and Criskelo, but the same issues happened. I cant say I always flush the phone with the correct method, as I was just a newbie in this. For any one have some ideas, please let me know, please…….
