For those of you who want to try out the latest ICS 4.0.4 on your Galaxy Note GT-N7000 that just came out, you can use Mobile Odin to do it easily. This new version has some upgrades like floating video player from Galaxy S3 and the new Galaxy Note apps. We’ve already seen most of it with custom ROMs but if you really want to try, here’s how to do it.
Make sure before you begin, you make a backup of your ROM, backup your apps using Titanium Backup app, and also hide your wife and kids.
Step 1. First, you will need to download a 3 files, Mobile Odin Lite, Mobile Odin Flash Kernel for GT-N7000, and the stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM.
Also, if you want to help the creator of Mobile Odin ChainFire, you can simply buy the Mobile Odin Pro version on the Play Store (then you only need to download the stock ICS ROM).

*If you are unrooting your phone for warranty, you can also download Triangle Away app (also available on Play Store) and run it just before unrooting to reset the binary counter.
Download Triangle Away app here
Step 2. Unzip any zip files and you should get the 3 files like shown below. Copy all of these 3 files to your phone.
(Don’t have unzipping program? Download and install 7Zip first.)
Step 3. Use a file explorer app like ES File Explorer and find the files you copied over. Select on any files ending in .apk and install them. In other words, install Mobile Odin Lite and Mobile Odin Flash Kernel for GT-N7000.
Step 4. When done installing the apps, run Mobile ODIN Lite and select “Open file…”.
Step 5. Find the stock ROM file you copied over, it’s the file ending in tar.md5.
Step 6. Select “OK”.
Step 7. Select “Flash firmware”.
Step 8. Select “Continue”.
Step 9. Select “Check”.
Step 10. Mobile Odin will start flashing the stock ROM on your phone so just let it do its thing but keep watching carefully just in case.
Once it’s done, your phone should reboot and you should now have Android ICS 4.0.4 running on your phone.

After burning it i.e.
I just installed German 4.0.4, but have some issues:
1. Screen is not locking (no one locking method does not works)
2. Can’t activate remote controls to use samsung drive
3. default video player does not plays any videos at all
First time, when I flashed (safe way, did factory wipe/reset/format/clear cache from abyss kernel, flashed with PC Odin)
samsung keyboard didn’t worked, it was writing “null” for any letter
Second time it worked, but have this issues
also, when I press power button, only two choices are: TurnOff od Reboot (as it was on GB ROM’s)
Max, is it safe to re-flash this kernel using Mobile Odin? during flash does it performs any wipes? Because still unknown if this kernel has eMMC brick bug
Yes Odin is safe, u dont need to use abyss beforehand, the only bricks happen when using ICS bundled ClockworkMod Recovery.

Hi bro, My i717 is running only one ICS rom…I tried going back to stock 2.3.6 in order to update to the official 4.0.4 however I couldn’t update through KIES as it said the “phone is not supported for upgrade through KIES”….after bit of a research I did figure out tht in order to update the Baseband version shud be i717UCLA1 but mine is still i717UCLE2 (which i guess is coming from the only one ROM) even after going back to 2.3.6…
Please help me where i m making a mistake and how can i upgrade officialy

Just one more thing Max, the Pro Mobile Odin version lets you keep root (EverRoot) while flashing to the new stock rom as opposed to the Odin Lite one right? Just want to clarify. Thanks a lot.
I heard EverRoot isn’t recommended while unrooting but you can try it, I have not tried that option.

Hie guys. I have updated my galaxy note with ics 4.0. The note was doing fine, fast with no problem at all. I then wanted to swap it with the Galaxy S3. So i rebooted my note into Clock Work Mod and did a data wipe. My note got stuck there and suddenly said it could not read E:\ the internal drive. I have tried to reinstall the ics via odin but still it can not access the E:\ drive. So my note is not booting. Please what can i do? I can not find a solution anywhere on the net. Please heeeeeeeellllllp…. Thank You.

it happened to me, but is a waste of time to reflash with pc odin once u flashed with mobile one, it is 100% success if you can see the Samsung logo, now restart in recovery and do a wipe factory and you are done, you were coming from a custom rooted room for sure. Same happened with me. I was coming from blackCNA JB.
Hi Max, I got into a trouble, I did just according to your guide, but at the start up, the “SAMSUNG” logo just shows, but nothing further….I was on CM9 before I do this. I tried installing other roms, the same thing happened..please help…Thanks for your effort.

URGENT! Everyone thinking to upgrade should read this.
Not sure how serious this situation is. My upgrade is successful. But, when I press Volume Up+Home+Power Button, I got the screen with the lying down Android with a red triangle. The screen says:

This is the new feature in ICS 4.0.4. When you play a Video, you will get an option in right bottom of the screen which will enable you to pop-out the video to home screen. Even when you are composing an SMS or updating a contact, you can still watch the video. FYI
You can install any of the ROMs that have GS3 TouchWiz UX launcher, then you have to install the floating player apk file. ROMs like Criskelo, RocketROM, KingsDroid.

Well there are some stuff that are great but you can wait couple days as custom ROMs will have all of the new features, that’s my advice, just wait if you are doing fine on custom ROM. Cheers!

Might be different carriers, it doesn’t hurt to try both, it’s safe to use on any GT-N7000.

No bricking only happens if you are on ICS and Do a Factory Reset without using Abyss first (or other safe kernels).

You should have done it before doing factory reset, next time, that’s how people have been bricking their phones.

I noticed that you are coming from a custom rom and thus a custom kernel also. Coming from a stock ICS 4.0.3 rooted with stock kernel. Is it really safe to use mobile odin to flash LRG while on stock 4.0.3 kernel?

If you have mobile odin pro you don’t need it as it will download automatically.

For changing CSC, try Criskelo ROM, I think it does let you easily change CSC.

First of all great site and I really like your to the point instruction style.
I followed the instructions on your rooting page to root and then try CM10 preview 3 for a while. Later, I followed the instructions on this page exactly to unroot and revert to ICS 4.0.4. It completed but the phone gets stuck on the glowing Samsung logo.
Correct me if I’m wrong, I guess it needs a wipe of data/cache partitions, but now since its running stock recovery, how do I do this safely without risking bricking the phone? Kindly advise how to proceed. Many thanks.

Try doing a factory reset with Abyss kernel before unrooting, that should be very safe. Make sure you reboot into recovery after flashing Abyss.

i ask this because i messed up somewhere. I rooted my T-mobile galaxy and was just installing some apps. I restarted phone and that was my end. It boots up to the SAMSUNG GALAXY LOGO screen and goes black again.

1.Unroot using ISC 4.0.4
2.Root it.
3.Wipe data/factory reset in CWM
4.Wipe cache partition ins CWM
Phone return to stock format but still can’t use Bluetooth & Sync options.
Installed Abyss kernel in CWM.
Reboot phone to, it stucked in CWM Recovery v5.8.1.5 and keeps blinking not allowing to choose any options.
Restart my note, it stucked at Black screen with “Samsung GALAXY Note GT-N7000″

I used this exact method to supposedly unroot my phone however after using a root checker, I found that I still have root privileges. I have tried deleting the su file and the superuser.apk file to no avail. Please help me.

I rooted my mobile galaxy note n7000. I restarted phone. It boots up to the SAMSUNG GALAXY LOGO screen and nothing else is done. And after that did factory reset but still the phone is going no were after the screen shows samsung logo. What should i do.
Do you know how to fix “logo jpg” draw failed. The gt n7000 logo boot screen was gone.

Hi max i did it all as u said but then my phone wasnt properly opening then i tried to do a factory reset but first isnt it doing in recovery mood if so i thought so and then i get into download mode then used CWM wipe and reset i think this step was worng made me stuck in samsung logo now can’t enter recovery mode HELP ME S.O.S
@Mustafa. I faced the same problem once. i couldn’t enter into recovery mode and flash was stuck in Nand write as you mentioned in another post. i’m telling you how i fixed it.I suspect you already soft bricked your phone,So you will need pits-N7000_16GB/pits-N7000_32GB for PIT of Odin,just google with file name. at first reinstall samsung USB drivers,if you don’t have,google it.then don’t connect your phone.start odin,set all the files b4 connecting.then connect your phone but you will see some drivers will start installing,CANCEL THE INSTALLATION IMMEDIATELY, installation of the driver will make you stuck again.if you fail to cancel ,repeat the process again.Hopely you can flash without any issue.You may loose some of your internal storage and may have to restart your phones few times to start properly.Best of luck.

thanks mate i solved problem after a little bit searching now i want to install a german stock rom or i want to root phone so i can install 4.0.4

now that my german open stock rom it frozen sometimes after install it from kies
its because you phone is already softbricked. i had warranty,so i got my motherboard replaced. phone freezes when you restart mostly, right?
