For this week’s GT-N7000 and SGH-i717 Galaxy Note ROM of the week, check out BeanStalk ROM.

Based on Android 4.3 CM10.2, BeanStalk ROM brings you the latest Android 4.3 along with UI customization and other cool features like PIE Control, HALO floating notifications, and more.

I’ve tried many Android 4.3 builds so far and BeanStalk ROM is one of the more fun ones with cherry-picked features that you may enjoy over a regular CM10.2, which is great also but you don’t get as much customization out of the box.

As for camera, the Focal camera is a bit buggy but stock camera works just fine. Also you can install Android 4.3 PhotoSphere Camera APK to get full PhotoSphere on the ROM.

Overall, it’s a pretty smooth Android 4.3 although there are some bugs to be improved upon.

If you don’t feel like waiting for stable release of Android 4.3 and want to tinker with the best and the latest, check out BeanStalk ROM this week(end) and do let me know what you think!

    Hi Max,

Is there a kernel I can use to overclock this ROM? I’ve downloaded the lastest version from XDA and no overclocking. Thanks.

  5. cody says:

I love this rom except i’m having one issue! My lock button no longer locks my screen. A long press still pulls up a power menu and it wake it up just fine but i can’t turn my screen off (which is a huge battery drain with the note) Please help?

  6. Dhruv says:

I think this is one of the most stable ROM’s I’ve personally used, vs. PacMan and Paranoid.
    Thanks Max

  7. craszh says:

Is anyone know how to get Xposed app to work? if yes please let me know how thank you.

  8. Nico says:

CONS: this rom seems to force restart alot. my wake button doesnt work all of the time. having issues with instagram video (will record fine, but exports either a all pink screen or green garbled video), torch doesnt work, settings such as the quick settings and the lockscreen apps dont save once changed always revert back to default.

PROS: very very smooth, the sony walkman music player is nice and displays the track names on my bluetooth stereo in my car (which is something that i have yet to find on other roms), tweaks options are nice, and i love the fact that i dont have to select disable HW overlays everytime my phone restarts.

DOES anyone know how to get this rom to not restart as much, please let me know. I may keep it. if not then its back to CM10.

  9. craszh says:

The most stable JB 4.3 I’ve try so far, but it did restart a few times already since installed a day ago. Battery life is ok, bluetooth works didn’t have to restart like other ROM to get it back to turn on so far. See how it is in couple weeks from now, one thing I’ve noticed with all these ROMs only work good the first couple weeks and shit starts to happen after that. If everything good by then I might use this as my daily driver beside Blackstar X. Fingers cross!

  10. mohaned_nj says:

This is one of the most stable roms iv ever tried!, I like it v much …. The only issue is that it some times get stuck from watching videos…but every thing else is ok

  11. Antoinne says:

your method doesn’t work with me and gives me “aborted installation”

    please help

  13. terry l says:

    Try twrp.
Ran onto same problem with cwm

  14. Axel says:

this rom sucks installed gaaps with it and the lockscreen doesn’t function right the camera never opens bluetooth likes to work whenever it wants … overall its smooth but not reliable

  15. Jamal says:

I tried so many times to install this ROM on my Galaxy Note GT N7000, but it returns a message of Installation Aborted…What is the Solution

  16. craszh says:

Hi does anyone ever had their screen gradually turned white while watch YouTube to the point where your whole screen turned white and you can’t see or do anything and have to restarted? It had happened to me twice today and I remember it had happened to me before on a different ROM.

  17. A Hamdi says:

finally I found the way 😀

you have to download the 3 rooting file and move it to the phone then install them all in order, after that reboot into recovery again and install the ROM and Google app directly.

whats going on with your gapps link, and the flash player link on this page. It just keeps sending me to a mirror site, and then another and another. never getting to the link were the gapps are or the flash player. I have been trying scene Sunday, I have the ROM downloaded.

  19. Mike says:

Hey Max—I’ve been lazy and am still using an old ROM [Blackstar X 4.0.4]—I’ve downloaded all the ROMs you’ve shown for my SGH-i717 from AoCP_I717_5.0-VBTE thru BeanStalk ROM Android 4.3 for Galaxy Note! [GT-N7000-SGH-i717]—which would be your favorite of all those, if you only had 1 phone like I do, as far as fastest performance with least lag, generous settings, options, customizations, and apps and battery life. Thanks beforehand.

  20. Boogie says:

Stable as hell. This will most likely be my daily driver. A kernel for OC would be the icing.

  21. logan peterson says:

can you please send me some links for the gtn8020 model as i have been wanting to mod my note 10.1 for 3 months now and none are available for the n8020

  22. Walter says:

This ROM works awesome. It has ot forced closed on me in 5 days since the install. Everything seems to work properly. I had a couple of things that I learned however. It would not install with CWM. (Kept getting STATUS 7 error) I did successfully install with TWRP. Also, once it was installed, I lost root privileges. I had to re-install superSU from a zip file in TWRP in order to regain them.

    Cheers!

  23. Khalid says:

hii am receiving an update to dis ROM after installing it.. shall i proceed wid the update..

  24. Hwnry says:

Not a bad rom. Only just installed it, but like the camera features. To be honest, most of the roms I have installed aren’t a whole lot different from each other since I don’t tweak my phone too much in case it fails :p
Would be nice if it had an overclock/underclock feature to extend battery life but I have chargers pretty much everywhere so it’s not that important for me.
Might be an idea to install “backup your mobile” before installing this rom so that you can keep all your settings, sms, contacts etc. without relying on your google account, which can sometimes be temperamental.
Also, I use the Abyss kernel whenever I switch roms, which is mentioned on this website. It’s so easy to chop and change and I would highly recommend you look for the article for it so that you don’t run into so many problems trying to switch roms 🙂

  25. Hwnry says:

Okay, I’m back. Battery life is pretty poor. Using other camera apps like burst mode camera will give you no viewfinder screen. Overall buggy, but if you only use your phone as a phone, then it’s fine… but you wouldn’t be here reading this if that were the case….

  26. lebert says:

can anyone tell me how to synchronize facebook contacts?

  27. craszh says:

i like this ROM, but like all other ROMs i’ve flashed before I started to have problem after a week or so. This ROM is not the faster or the greatest, but it’s pretty smooth. Lately I have problem wake up the screen on the lock screen. I had to restart a few times already due to this issue. Most of the time it will wake up with just couple try by pushing the power button. Lately that don’t seem to work too well and have to restarted. Also this ROM reboot itself a lot I mean a lot. Time to look for new one.

  28. Marvin says:

Does anybody know if any of the 4.3 roms like BeanStalk support 3rd-party camera apps like Instagram or Vine? I know the 4.2.2 didn’t support them so I am stuck using 4.1.2 Padawan for now

  29. Boogie says:

Had to flash off of this one. Was running great for the first couple days but then started giving me some troubles.
A ton of random reboots.. and not to mention the black screen when trying to unlock.

  30. Jason Mitchell says:

Well, I think you know by now how much I love this ROM! Without a shadow of a doubt, it’s the best custom ROM for this phone I’ve used. Of course there are a few minor bugs which I’ve been told they’re onto but WOW. It makes this device a pleasure all over again. Hopefully they’ll sort out the HTC one x quickly too cos that’s proper buggy but still superb. The developer is off to sleep now unfortunately, but he deserves not just a good kip but also donations! Max, sometimes I rue the day I came across your sites because now I need my daily fix of the high from android!

  31. Jason Mitchell says:

Sorry, one more thing. Goo says there’s an update for this ROM which is the Cyanogen 4.2.2. And that’s what I got when I tried to update the Beanstalk ROM- Cyanogen? If I’m doing something wrong when trying to update this ROM and it seems to be the case, perhaps a video or something about this would be great. Thanks, Jason.

  32. Jason Mitchell says:

It comes with focus and the other 3rd party camera apps I use work fine. Max has also given us a link for photosphere somewhere.

  33. Tim Rosenquist says:

I put BeanStalk on my SGH-i717 Note and used it for a week on vacation primarily as a hotspot, but also for some apps. I was going to use Bluetooth tethering, but as others have noted, Bluetooth appears to have reliability issues. Also the lock screen issue was annoying. Pressing the power button once did not bring up the unlock screen, just lit up the buttons. Another off/on double tap on the power button was required to wake up the screen. Occasionally a longer press of the power button would wake it up.
It is not quite ready for primary use, but it certainly put new life into this old hardware.
Where can one provide feedback to the developer?

  34. Sameer Ahmed Khan says:

the rom seems to be stable . however the S-pen does not work and not able to take screenshot . can anyone tell me how to take screenshot . and not able to recover S-note need help on that one as well

    thanks

  35. khalid says:

most of the new ROMs doesn’t support S pen feature hence u can use the screenshot manually from the power button jus press it and ull find the screenshot option.

    • Maggie says:

Yes, just can’t edit with S-pen off of screenshots, which I used constantly and quickly to take note. sad loss. There are app workarounds for later Note versions on the forms. Those apps like Note Buddy don’t work on thus Note though.

      • Dhruv says:

There is one. It’s called GMD Spen control I believe. It should work for any ROM with the i717. Allows custom actions with the spen like stock ROM.

  36. jeff says:

How come every time i try to flash this i get a error tgat says assert faild get prop (“ro.product.device) error in sdcard/beanstalk (status7)
