Saurom ROM RC7.1 for AT&T Galaxy Note SGH-i717! [Best Gingerbread ROM]

Honestly, I simply haven’t found a single ICS ROM for my AT&T Galaxy Note SGH-i717 that I would want to use as a daily driver. My criteria for a daily driver ICS ROM would include the use of the S-Pen and overclocking. I feel that without overclocking the SGH-i717 isn’t usable and you will notice a ton of lag, especially when using the S-Pen. (The GT-N7000 runs without lag though without overclocking, much better processor.)

Anyways, I still think Saurom ROM is the best ROM right now so here’s an updated Saurom ROM RC7.1. I will keep trying more ICS throughout the week but at the moment, I am always running back to this ROM and I love how smooth it runs at 1.8-1.9Ghz overclocked.

Easy way to do just type *#2263# you will see the band you want.
Make sure your phones root and new custom Rom.

  4. Annel says:

How do you overclock? sorry i’m a rookie at this

    • Max says:

Install SetCPU off the Market or you can download it free from XDA if you sign up as a member, Google “SetCPU”.

  5. tony says:

Hey max… can i down grade my ATT G-Note from ICS to RC7??

    • Max says:

Yes you can, just install from CWM, you can flash GB/ICS back and forth on the i717 no problem.

    • Idk lol says:

If it is a leaked ICS i wouldnt recomend it because there is a bug in the leaked ICS build that causes your phone to “Super Brick” so the more times you format your phone the more possible it is to Brick it, still waiting on a fix for it. Thats only if it is a leaked samsung build though.

  8. Robert says:

Yeah I found the fix off the main page for the ROM (which is not listed above) but there is a fix for ATT

    • Jek says:

      Did you fix it?
Were you able to reinstall everything
Could you mention what you did to fix it

      thanks,

      • CaptnTim says:

Go under the main page for Root Galaxy Note…then at the bottom go to like page 3…look for the original post for installing Saurom Rom on Galaxy Note and read that post. In the notes you’ll see that you can download a ATT Fix zip that will fix the 4g issue. Same thing happened to me when I installed this new rom…lost all 4g and data until I installed that API Fix.

  9. Annel says:

    Hey Max great job!
At what should I set my max,min and my scaling?
    Thanks.

    • Max says:

min can be the lowest possible (or higher if you notice any lag, I sometimes set it near 500 or 700), max probably around 1.836Ghz, and use SmartAssV2 governor. Should still give you great battery life.

  10. Mark says:

Max: I am a noob and your videos have made this process so much easier. You made it very easy for someone like me to get experience and confidence so that i don’t ruin my phone. Thanks a lot. Out of all the ICS roms which do you think is the best?

  11. Julio Diaz says:

hey max im having a problem idk if you have gone through this but i flashed the blaze modem, reboot my phone and i have and i hae no signal only emergency calls what should i do?

  12. Steve says:

    Thanks 😉

    • Max says:

clear cache and dalvik cache in recovery, hold down volume up, volume down, and power button for 15 seconds, let go of power button.

      • Ruayly says:

i did and it didnt work same thing keeps happening. Which note do u think is better the at&t one or the international?

        • Max says:

International is waaay better, zero-lag s-pen, faster processor, just a complete Note experience whereas the ATT version has lag unless you overclock and it’s a watered down version of the real thing.

          • halo82 says:

hey max what settings should i do under SETCPU to overclock my at&t unlocked for tmobile runnin on saurom 7.1 with blaze modem? lmk, thanks! (n great work!)

I was wondering if T-mobile users after flashing still get 2 bars less than regular signal.
Is it possible to get full signal like regular on Tmobile’s network

  18. Golden says:

  19. julio diaz says:

i really need help because i installed the blaze radio and i reboot at times and i get a circle with a cross. Let me know if you ever get this or what can i do to fix it

    • Max says:

I don’t get that but you can try another modem.

      • halo82 says:

he means he has no signal…..when u restart ur phone n is lookin 4 a signal n can’t find it it will stay @ the circle with tha line in the middle….i think thats what he means haha…

  20. Jek says:

I hate to post it again but I was wondering if someone can answer my following post

I was wondering if T-mobile users after flashing still get 2 bars less than regular signal.
Is it possible to get full signal like regular on Tmobile’s network

    thanks,

    • halo82 says:

i’ve installed 3 different modems n noticed some do get more bars then others BUT some are slowers then others…im thinkin this depends on ur location…right now im runnin blaze modem n its showed better results then the other modems….done so speed tests n results were

      1. 2426kbps d/l n 308kbps u/l

      2. 1468kbps d/l n 239kbps u/l

i guess thats pretty slow compared to thers who are gettin over 5mbps

  21. DRAC says:

wiping the caches fixed the market issue. now i overclocked to 1.89ghz (the recommended speed) with rom toolbox and get endless rebooting. why is this the best rom again?

    • Jack Overcasher says:

You have ti do a full wipe as the developers page states. That includes a factory reset/wipe along with clearing tue cache and dalvik cache. You can do all this through cwm. I have been using saurom for the last couple of months and so all these problems that im reading are old news to me. Been there done that and now i am up and running with out a hitch. DO NOT OVERCLOCK ABOVE 1750 as the phone will become unstable and crash or go into bootloop.

  22. Mark says:

hi, Max, i have some question, i just get my galaxy note, i want to know if i root my i717, can i use on T-mobile or other? and can i use other rom when i root? is look like HK Rom?
    thank you

  23. craszh says:

    Hi Max,

Great job for all the videos you putted up BTW! And thanks! I just restored my GN i717 from ICS beta 4 back to Saurom ROM RC 7.1, because for me ICS beta 4 gives me too many annoying bugs which I can’t stand. Anyways now I want to over clock it. What is the speed you recommend that will be safe to overclock to? I have GO launcher on my phone right now and I do see a little lag when open and close the drawer. Please advice thanks.

    • craszh says:

BTW I am not Tmobile network and also notice a few time the signal sometime goes dead and came back on while surfing the net. I have the blaze modem installed and already tried the other modems you putted up also.

      Side note:
4g on this modem is crap… yes it will say 4g on the notification bar, but when you surf the net sometime it’s not even moving. LOL but when it really work it can be pretty fast at time…. did a speed test never get over 5 mb download and never get over 1.5 upload. half the time only getting G and Edge speed. LOL

    • Max says:

I do around 1.836Ghz max and 500Mhz min, try that.

      • craszh says:

Is this speed is safe? according to Jack Overcasher he said not to over clock to 1750ghz otherwise it will become unstable, cash and rebooting. I have a GN i717 running Tmobile. I saw your video you had it on 1.836ghz did you have any problem at this speed? Or this issue (unstable) depending on what you have on the device? I am using GO Launcher right now.

Also even though I am on 2.3.6 I still use the ICS modem?
Why is my Kernel version showing unavailable on Saurom ROM RC7.1? Thank you for your help and advice.

        • Max says:

It depends on how far your CPU can go, every CPU is different due to the fact that there’s variable temperature for silicon, which is what CPU is made out of. The worst that can happen is that your phone freezes or reboot. If this happens, simply lower the maximum CPU frequency. Mine can handle near 1.9Ghz so I step it down to around 1.83Ghz, I run it at that all the time.

And also overclocking at 1.83Ghz doesn’t mean your phone runs that fast all the time, your phone uses a “governor” to speed up only when absolutely needed.

So, Jack Overcasher is wrong. Just go as much as you can without your phone rebooting, you can run Quadrant to test this.

          • craszh says:

Thanks Max! I am new to this just want to be sure I don’t mess things up.

How about the modem? Can I flash the ICS modem with Saurom ROM?

            • Max says:

yes should work fine but let me know if u have problems.

              • craszh says:

Thanks Max! Just flashed the new ICS blaze modem and it seems to work better. Did 4 speed test at work inside a building results in Rosemead, CA.

                First result: 642kbps down 25kbps up 🙁
                2nd result: 3255kbps down 121kbps up ok
                3rd result: 642kbps down 25kbps up double 🙁
4th result: 7834kbps down 158kbps up not bad

Will test again tonight when get off work to L.A.,CA Thanks again!

Thanks a lot, this ROM is by far the most stable and useful out there. Miles better than any of the ICS ROMs out now. Cheers!

  29. TANASE says:

Hey Dude, Awesome work and site… THUMBS UP!!!
Quick question, I have the AT&T Galaxy Note (SGH-I717) and I want to know, is there a GB or ICS Rom without any of the AT&T Bloated software? I am not in the US and don’t need any of their stuff, I have a different service provider… would really like to clean up and remove some of these apps rather than placing them into a FOLDER name “BLOATED”.

    Thanks in advance…
    Keep up the good work!

    • Max says:

You can use Titanium Backup app to uninstall any apps but make sure you make a backup ROM as things can break.

      • TANASE says:

Hey man thanks for the response, but unfortunately it does not work… It says
“Error: Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox and try again. This attempt was made using the “su” command.”
        What should I do? I am a novice to android… don’t know about rooting…
Also, I cannot get this option to back up…
        http://youtu.be/2t8dITifFnc

        This is what I see…
        Android system recovery
Enter: OK Key, Select: Vol Up / Vol Down
        reboot system now
        apply update from sdcard
        wipe data/factory reset
        wipe cache partition
        test redbend fota[FS]

        Thanks again dude…

        • Max says:

You dont have cwm installed try installing that first check the faq its all there.

          • TANASE says:

Dude, your videos are awesome, they helped me a lot… I am ROOTED and not BLOATED anymore LOL…
            Hooray for MAX!!!
            Many thanks dude…
            AWESOME WORK!!!

    Hi Max!
Wondering if you can help me out… lately i’ve been having problem with my sms. For some reason it doesn’t want to send I have to resend it once or twice before it send out the message. I know it is not the signal because I’ve watched the signal before I pressed send and this just happen in the last few days. Do you have any idea why it does that? Any help would be great… I’ve never had problem with this ROM (Saurom ROM RC7.1) before on my gnote i717. Thanks

  32. david says:

How do you upgrade to 7.1 saurom. I followed all your videos to root the note.

  33. david says:

Oh yeah one more thing whenever i download a game from the play store i cant get it to finish its almost like its stuck downloading. And i tried even purchased games.

  34. David says:

Tried the ICS Roms, they were nice, almost there, but had to come back to the KING. Every app works on Saurom, got my Crackle back, Hulu+, Netflix, my Note is a multimedia JUGGERNAUGHT again!
Thanks to Max and the Community here, Hopefully the ICS ROMs get the bugs out soon, cause they were smooth as butter.

  36. richard says:

Hi guys, I ve been using saurom rom, and I have to say that this is the best rom so far.
Quick question though. Whenever I receive message, I don’t get any alert or notification, so I always forgot to respond the message. Can anybody help me out with this issue? I have been tried to fix this by enabling all the notification check box, but it doesn’t fix the problem…plx help me out guys.

    • Tim says:

You could always try Handcent. I used to use that; haven’t had to use it on this ROM. There is a module called SMSpopup which uses the default client.

  37. Jimmy says:

can anyone help? i tried installing this version of the rom without the first version. and my phone wont boot up anymore. i have nothing else in my sd card to install to bring it back. please help. thanks.

You need to restore any apps, contacts, etc. you backed up. iPhone, BB, etc. are all the same just automated for you.

Anyone have ICS working on T-mobile with 4G? I only get edge.
When on saurom I get 4G with no trouble ?

  44. Tim says:

Anyone else having issues with Samsung Kies connecting to the phone with this ROM? I’m getting an error about the service failing to start on the phone.

  45. Dustin says:

Anyone know why the reception, time, data icons do not appear at the top after installing this rom.

  46. Gordon says:

Anyone know what the call recording software is in saurom? Is it possible to get it in an ICS ROM?
I’ve flashed a few ICS ROMs but came back to saurom. Though there will be no further development of it.

WOW “MAX” n “IDK LOL” u guys are tha best! i ran into sum problems installin this app but read ur responsez n im up n runnin…gonna test out tha blaze modem….now i read in xda developers that adding tha build.prop will increase the 4g speed….ima try with out build.prop since i just installed tha rom n radio…will post 4 of my results of SPEEDTEST.NET to see how my 4g connection is…

i’m on unlocked galaxy note i717R saurom rom rc7.1 blaze modem for t-mobile service….

I’m currently using a G-note I717 on T-mobile with a pre paid sim… while my notification bar shows 4g, speedtest shows speeds under 512kbps… I’m running Saurom Projekt Team, Build RC_7_att. I’ve tried some other radios but they simply don’t work.
    Any ideas would be helpful.

    • Craszh says:

Let me know when you find a solution. I have the same issue and have tried all available radio modem Max put out on his site with no luck. Currently using the official ics from Max site with blaze modem. Dont see any change. Still better than nothing though, but still very slow most of the time. 🙁

      • Nate0083 says:

I will try to find a solution… I am using Tmo’s $30 unlmtd text and web +100min on my refurb at&t G-note…. WAY better price than what the contract through at&t is, even if my data is super slow! still, I want to get the speeds I’ve seen quoted… 5mb+ dnld and 1.5mb up… would be sweet.
I tired adding the apn suggested earlier in this thread, but no difference. Tried the *#2263# with no change either… next I’m going to try adding the build.prop mentioned above as I also saw it on XDA.
I will post with any results. I might also try and go to an ICS ROM that works with the Blaze mdm…

You guys are the best. I followed all of your instructions (videos) and I did everything (rooted my phone, installed CWR, flashed Sauron ROM 7 and 7.1, flashed radio, flashed Blaze modem, fixed the play store) it is working beautifully and fast.

Thank You Thank You Thank You.

    • Zameel says:

I know this might sound like a crazy request but is there some kind of manual JKay Deluxe Settings are craxy there are sooooo many customizations. I want to know if I can write if “If Found …” for the lock screen among other things.

Is there a rom like this out for the TMo. Galaxy S III?

  50. Jimmie says:

Hi Max thank you for doing what you do. I have been very happy with my Saurom Tom. But felt I had to be missing something. So I upgraded to ICS and like the new look and feel. But I really miss my lockscreen toggles. My question is. what updated rom it?
    thanks Max, your the best…

  51. jimmy m says:

ok i have a question i rooted and have this rom. does this rom allow custom boot animations cuz i wanna change the boot screen that says android ive tried apps and they dont seem to do anything… please help thanx

  52. mekineer says:

I find different versions of Saurom: XLA2, JWB, JW8, etc. Is there a more recent version for the Note? There is not a central website for Saurom Roms, so I’m not sure.

  53. mekineer says:

Jimmie, I don’t see how you like ICS. I installed Beanstalk KitKat, and it was slow as molasses. I imagine ICS is the same, as it has the same system requirements as KitKat.
