For this week’s AT&T Galaxy Note SGH-i717 (or Roger’s SGH-i717R) ROM of the week, check out BlackStar BlackJelly ROM!

Based on latest Android 4.1.2 firmware, the BlackStar BlackJelly ROM brings you some of the best customization along with Jelly Bean firmware for your enjoyment.

Some notable features include its own Alliance Control Settings that allow you to tweak everything from your status bar, clock, quick toggles plus enable cool stuff like auto call-recording, lockscreen torch, volume skip, and much more. You will also get a choice of 7 different lockscreens along withy ink effects.

The only thing I encountered was very bad lag, which is not from the ROM but from Jelly Bean firmware itself.  To remedy this you can simply install Phase kernel (which gives you 1.836Ghz overclocking out of the box) and works well with this ROM, making it smoother than your girlfriend’s legs.

Anyways, try out this ROM for this week(end) and do let me know if you like it!

  1. CravinR1 says:

Looking forward to trying the star. Great ICS ROMS and m sure jellybean will be as well

  2. Wil says:

I’m about to try it but the download time is really long

  3. Wil says:

A couple things that I noticed were that there is no flashlight in the notification toggles (not a deal breaker), When I tried to customize the Statusbar the system UI crashed and stayed crashed even through 2 reboots. I had not even tried to restore my apps yet so this ROM is a fail right off the bat for me. I’m going back to padawan JB V2 ROM. I don’t think I’ve ever had a crash on it.

  4. Ethan Harrison says:

Ive been running this one for a few weeks. Its smooth and stable. I added the extened power menu and greenify just to be cool.

  5. Hector Saenz says:

ami also as locks is failing me a lot and do not know how to make this rom flow properly

  6. pollirox79 says:

I just installed the Rom and the Kernel on my Note and it actually works a little better than the Padawan V.2 But this is on my phone I don’t know how this Rom works on someone else’s phone . The only thing where it still lags a little is When You open the messages takes forever or when You press the home button if you are on a different page.

  7. pollirox79 says:

By the way Battery life on my device is beautiful .

  8. coldday says:

Decided to give this new black star a try didn’t have much luck with the other ones. So far 3 days and
    I’m loving it

  9. Gary Yun says:

Tried this ROM & PhaseKernel OC to 1.836GHz with GT-N7005 running smoothly. Changed phone modem to Roger XLA2 to have data line running much smoother than before. Need to monitor the ROM stability
Pros: Customize fonts, OC automatic, Good partner with Nova Launcher & Multi-View, Good battery life.
Cons: No softkey to wake up screen once off, No Navigation Bar/PIE, Much less ROM setting than other customized ROMs. Language support is limited to few w/o Chinese.

    • Gary Yun says:

The ROM is unstable & hanged very often if OC to 1836MHz. Reboot is also not use until restore backup from CWM Recovery. Now set OC to 1620MHz & seeing system is much better!

  10. pollirox79 says:

I’m re-flashing right now phone re booted randomly twice and then it would get stuck at the samsung logo , I hope the re-flsah fixes it .
Has anyone using this i717 on T-mobile flashed any of the T-mobile modems on this Rom.?
Mine works I was just curious Love the 4g LTE icon .

    • Gary Yun says:

I got same experience as u. I did backup the ROM after 1st flash & setup then do fine tune & update all along. Once it stuck at boot, I go Recovery to restore the latest backup. I like the coloring & 4G icon on Status Bar.

  11. nelson says:

This is a great ROM . The only problem that I had was when I installed a custom ROM when I overclocked to 1.75 the phone would reboot and keep rebooting. Also google maps crashed maney times.over all this is a great ROM. Loved the custom lockscreen.

  12. Joshua says:

Do you need gapps for this??

  13. joshua says:

how do u install the kernal listed above?

  14. joshua says:

please help!stuck at logo after flashing!

  15. Josh says:

After installing the rom,I can’t find mobile networks on my carrier, how do I fix this?Even though I tried registering the networks ,it says I have no service

  16. ethan says:

I think theres a toggle in the pull down menu.

  17. canadiansdontsayaboot says:

Pros: everything so far works decently well except GPS is flaky.
    Battery life isn’t bad.
    It looks good for touchwiz.

    Con’s:
Lag… Lots of lag… Install phase kernel lag is tolerable but so obviously there compared to ROMs like paranoidkangdroid.
Old android means old software, old camera etc.
If this was based on 4.2.2 or 4.3 and didn’t lag so bad it would be a great ROM.

  18. pollirox79 says:

I just found out and confirmed that if You pull the battery in the middle of a shut down on this ROM You phone will not re-boot at all it’ll get stuck at the Samsung Logo , I confirmed it last night just being lazy didn’t want to wait the extra seconds and wait for the Phone to shut down , I just went ahead and removed the batt to swap for my fully charged one and the phone would not reboot at all I had to re-flash the whole thing again this is the second time .

    • Gary Yun says:

It seemed that it is a common problem across in regardless you pull the battery or not. My solution to the ROM is to do CWM backup as often as possible. Running OC to 1620MHz only or don’t OC.
I flashed Roger Modem which running fast & smooth in Singapore.

  19. troy says:

is there a way to change the boot up image on this rom
I have tryed flashing using the settings in the rom and nothing
    Pls help thanks

  20. craszh says:

I’ve tried almost every JB ROMS and a lot of them only work good for a few weeks or less and start to have problem. Reboot, bad signal, GPS issue and etc. Now going back to ICS with Blackstar X and loving it. Much more stable than JB. Maybe just my phone, but this is my experiences.

  21. g003p says:

Is anyone having problems w/phone recognizing AC charging? My phone is recognizing the USB charging, but not AC power right now.

  22. g003p says:

For me, I’m getting tremendous lag even with some overclocking upon trying to unlock. This is several times a day. Not a good experience for me.

  23. Androiderz says:

Samsung Unlocked (AT&T) i717 – music players do not work properly, problems with the SD card, ROM customizer keeps shutting down; after flashing phase kernal, lost data. Will DarkSide Wipe and reflash for the 4th time – hopefully it will fix all the glitches, otherwise its on to BeanStalk.

  24. tim says:

does this rom has 4G LTE

  25. tim says:

does NFC works on this rom

  26. Cesar Augusto says:

    Hi there!

I’ve been using this rom since its launch here, and making a personal comparison up to this day, its perfomance has been really good.

The only problem I’m having with it, is that the wifi app searches and finds the connections but in most of the cases doesn’t connect, freezes the wifi app and then closes itself. Could someone give me a hand with this?

  27. Dan M says:

It seemed to run great at first but there is a pretty big issue with the system UI aka the notification bar. Its gone and anything I try will not get it to come back. Makes this rom unusable for me.

  28. Michael says:

Hello.. I desperately need to upgrade the rom on my girlfriend’s note.. The Rom is BlackStar X1 Build – IMM76D.DXLJ2 Android 4.04 Baseband I7I7UCLF6
I’m tech savvy but have never done this…

    Thanks…

    • Ethan says:

Id head over to XDA, and do some reading if you ever wanna get some again before messing with the ol’lady’s phone

  29. Michael says:

I know how to do a lot of stuff.. I managed a computer store and was repairing the screens on Ipads, phones, tablets jailbreaking, unlocking but I can’t seem to find straight forward instructions on how to change or upgrade this outdated Rom… Also which Rom to install…

    Thanks,

    Michael

  30. Ethan says:

There some good ROMs out and most have easy to follow directions i think the thread were chating on even has a step by step youtube video.
