For those of you who want to return your Galaxy Note 10.1 for warranty or simply want to reload the factory firmware (because you didn’t make a backup ROM), here’s how to do it.  This will put the factory ROM, recovery, and kernel back onto your Note 10.1.  This works for all the Note 10.1 GT-N8000, GT-N8010, and GT-N8013 models, you just need to use the correct firmware for your model number.

Step 1. First, hold down Power and Volume Down buttons together until your Note 10.1 resets into Download warning screen.

Step 2. Hit Volume Up button to enter ODIN Download mode.

Step 3. Connect a USB cable from your Note 10.1 to your computer.

Step 4. Download the appropriate factory firmware.

For Note 10.1 Wifi GT-N8013 models, you can download this firmware.

For Note 10.1 3G GT-N8000 or Wifi GT-N8010 models, goto SamFirmware.com and download the appropriate factory firmware for your Note 10.1.

Step 5. After downloading the factory firmware, unzip the file and you should find a file ending in “tar.md5″.  That’s the factory firmware you will need to use.

Step 6. Download, unzip, and run ODIN:

Step 7. You should see a yellow highlighted box, if you don’t, download and install Samsung USB drivers then re-connect your USB.

Step 8. DON’T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE but hit the “PDA” button and find the factory firmware file ending in “tar.md5″ you unzipped earlier in Step 5.

Step 9. Hit the “Start” button.  This should take around 5-10 minutes.

Step 10. When factory firmware has been flashed successfully, you will see “PASS!” and your Note 10.1 will reset.

Step 11. Once rebooted, you should find yourself on stock firmware.

Step 12. If you want to erase all of your personal settings, apps, and contents of your Note 10.1 (because you are returning for warranty or selling it), you can do a data wipe/factory reset in stock Android recovery.  Watch the latter part of the video tutorial to do that.

Q&A:

Q: ODIN fails and I get “Kies error mode”!
A: No worries, you can put your Note 10.1 in ODIN download mode and try again.  Also, try using another USB port if you are having trouble.

Q: Can I do this in Linux or Mac?
A: ODIN is only for Windows but yes, you can use Mobile ODIN PRO app to do this without a computer.  (Or also Heimdall but I do not recommend it unless you are an expert, use Mobile ODIN PRO.)

Q: Does this erase all my settings/apps?
A: No, it does not erase anything unless you are coming from a custom ROM that’s non-TouchWiz based such as ResurrectionRemix.  You can also do a data wipe/factory reset in CWM Recovery before unrooting if you are running non-TouchWiz based ROMs.

Q: How do I reset binary count?
A: You can download and run Triangle Away app before unrooting, that will reset your binary count.  Flashing stock firmware using ODIN DOES NOT increase your binary count FYI.

  6. Dre says:

from odin I got a fail message as it was starting the transfer and on my note 10.0 when i tried to back out the kies and start over it says… encountered error select recovery mode in kies…..and now im lost.

  7. Stauf99 says:

    same as above
(this comment is a bit too short, fyi)

    • Timothy says:

Make sure you disable kies if you want to do this with Odin as it conflicts each other. Or run kies recovery tool and locating where the firmware is located that you previously downloaded, but I much prefer Odin. Search around how to disable Kies application for your operating system.

  8. bpro105 says:

so i rooted my note 10.1 (gt-n8013) and i wanted to see the gl to sd and app2sd. unfortunately they didnt work as planned, so i used triangle away to reset the binary counter and put the stock unrooted rom. now the wifi randomly disconnects and i cant do OTA updates. would i b able to return the tablet for some made up reason to get a new working one?

    • Timothy says:

Try reflashing stock unrooted firmware again with odin. Then immediately test wifi. If you ever made kernel or mess with init.d before, chances are it may not be able to erase traces of all files.

  9. reza says:

    does it also remove cwm?

  10. arkan says:

procedures did Gnote root of 10.1, but the cmw was at boot, how to unroot? and if I follow these steps, he removed the cmw?

because I want to do the update, and does not allow cmw.

    thanks

  11. Rudy says:

You need to change the link to the n8013 firmware!

  12. Andi says:

I followed the steps, including making sure I downloaded the right firmware (because your link is for the Note 2) and instead of rebooting, it gets stuck on the Samsung logo.

    Help!

    • Timothy says:

yes…it usually take a while for the device to rearrange everything and load up…which is what it is doing at first bootup after flashing. If it is going to take longer than 15-20 min, then hold the power button to do a hard shutdown, then reboot the device back up…it should try to take a little while again at Samsung logo, but it shouldn’t take that long…all else, reflash the firmware with odin again…I had to do this sometimes and it should work.

      • Timothy says:

…sorry…if holding power doesn’t work…then take the battery out to turn it off.

        • Timothy says:

Taking the battery off is for the galaxy note phone. Sorry again. I have Both the note 10.1 and the note 2. You should be able to turn off with the power button.

      • Andi says:

Okay thanks, I’ll give that a whirl. I had no idea about just waiting. I started to panic and was like “omg did I just brick my baby?! oh god oh god..”

      • Andi says:

Phew looks like things worked better. Back onto the samsung logo, but I saw the factory android before as well. Will now just wait.

      • Andi says:

Mmkay well it’s still stuck at the Samsung logo, and holding down the power button just reboots it over again.

        • Timothy says:

You can also factory reset by going in stock recovery mode: holding volume up and power button at the same time. Then scroll down to factory reset and system data. Scroll using the volume button and selecting using the power button.

          • Rstgo007 says:

Timothy, I was going through the same problem as Andi, I followed the. Suggestions you gave Andi and it worked out fine Thank You for taking the time to help.

  18. Dean Lind says:

Galaxy Note 8 (GT-N5110). Used SuperSU to remove root and used ODIN to re-flash stock rom.
Now I can (sometimes) get it in either Download or Recovery mode, but I can not get my windows computer to recognize the unit via USB.
I have tried every USB port I have. Computer will chime as it recognizes something has been plugged in, but tab does not show up in Win Explorer.
Sometimes it reloads Samsung drivers, sometimes it doesn’t.
Kies does not and will not connect with it.
If I can’t get it connected, I can’t do anything with it and it is truly bricked.

    Help!!! (???)

    Thanks
